The G3 Ranch Thread

Congrats on the yote trapping! I have never set a trap for a coyote yet because we have had so many dog problems
I have dogs running on me as well. I have seen a pack of 7 a couple times and a few others, several trail cam pics of them. So far none trapped. I figure one will get in a trap at some point, maybe after a sore paw they'll be less likely to run my property like they own it. I wouldn't let dogs prevent me from trapping, yotes need thinning.

My problem is I might catch a dog while I am at work and my property is much smaller than yours and in these hills sound carries amazingly well so when a dog gets in my trap and go's to yelping and carrying on I am gonna get someone trespassing to find out what's going on and I don't want to deal with that...I am going to set a couple sets here around my yard because I get nightly coyote visitors within 50 yards of my house...

Understood, thought of that as well. I figure if the owner hears and releases the dog maybe (assuming he cares for the animal) he'll be more apt to keep them from running loose

I've been slacking on updates & forum participation for a few months, thought I'd better catch up.

Been a good spring, ponds built early 16 finally topped off .

Had to add more dirt to the dam due to a slight miscalculation .

Used my worn out no till drill for the first time, won't win any awards but got the job done in standing rye.

Drilled 1800 lbs soybeans on 18 acres. Last year the beans got decimated early so I upped the acreage and with the rye cover I'm hoping they canopy, if not I may scrap beans or just plant what I can fence.

Coming up slowly, I think a bit too much moisture in the last few weeks.

I'm experimenting by rolling, mowing and leaving some rye standing, trying to find out what will work best. Rye was sprayed a week ago.

Thanks to dogghr for the encouragement on the alfalfa, clover, chicory plot... I'm more than pleased at this point, I just clipped it a bit due to rye regrowth, the deer are hammering it and cannot keep up with it.

I will be planting this mix in another plot after I get the ph up a bit. The po had alfalfa here before so the ph was 7.3 it's 1.5 ac.

Trapped 6 yotes since March, still getting some pics but not seeing near the amount of scat that I was. Haven't caught one in a couple weeks, guess I've got all the dumb ones.

Awesome. Glad it worked out for you. In a dry year is when you really will appreciate it. Mine is entering its fifth year and I figured it would be jst clover and chicory at this time, but alfalfa still making up third of plot. Plan to do same in adjacent plot this fall that hopefully will perform as this one gives out. Your pond looks great. Glad you guys getting some rain this year, as we have also.

Man you have a lot of green going on and obviously the deer love it.

Been a good wet spring. Lots of activity in the alfalfa mix plot & the perennial clover plot. So far I haven't noticed the soybeans browsed, I'm hoping the rye will help them establish & canopy. Probably wishful thinking.

Thanks for the nudge & tips on getting the plot established. I just spread 4000lbs of fert over 20ac of plots, used the same mix for alfalfa, clover & beans. If things shape up like last year those dry conditions are not far off. Hopefully we'll see a bit more precip this year.

Killed the fourth rattlesnake sat, he was sunning on the dirt road. Biggest so far.
