Your Yates apple tree looks great, wish it was listed as a zone 4. May try a couple anyways. On the deer in Nebraska staying put on smaller property, that is interesting. Maybe baiting could be a reason. Here wherever we have loads of apples in concentrated areas, the does turn the areas into Grand Central Stations. Naturally bucks figure it out and follow them. If not the baiting being the difference is there any other thing in play?

Bucks running all over the place yesterday. Saw 8 different ones. Saw this one way off in the distance in a plot following a doe. Thought he was gone but at last light heard him slipping through the pines. Joker walked to within 10 feet of my ladder. Even I couldn’t miss that! I had gotten a picture of him in one of my plots Saturday morning. I didn’t hunt that morning but was on the tractor bushhogging less than 300 yards away while he was there. LOL. Owned this particular tract of the farm for 15 years and he was the first buck I’ve killed on it. First buck I’ve killed on the farm since 2013. It was time.

I have two at the farm now. Bought the first one several years back and have been changing out batteries faithfully (at least they are rechargeable). I bought a new Spartan with a 12 volt solar charged battery. LOVE IT.
So I began the process of using solar charged battery on the old Spartan, but it is a 6 volt. Could not find exactly what I needed so I have something rigged up that I hope to work. Like the commercial that concludes "We don't have to cook anymore!" I want to say "We don't have to change out batteries anymore"
