The Farm - Madison County, GA

If you will recall, or go back and read, posts 72 - 74 I mentioned working on making this plot exceptional. I also mentioned that one of my partners, an eternal pessimist, said I'd "never make a plot out of that spot". Well, here's a picture of it today (I planted it in wheat). Also, guess who the first person to go sit on it and kill a deer was. I'll give you a hint---it wasn't me.

Congrats to your daughter on a fine harvest! That is one fine looking plot but everything I've seen on your place that you grow is FINE! By the way...decided to take a 120 lb sow to Firetower and have them make breakfast sausage. Stuff is delicious! Had them prepare it medium hot with sage. Won't be leaving all of them for the buzzards from here on.

LOL. Don't you just love being right. Great job.

Absolutely. Had the same revelation about 15 years ago. Sliced backstrap is the bomb too.

One of my neighbors killed the buck I missed the next day. Every shooter buck I have had on camera the past three years has been killed by them. Every one. Feel sorry for the next buck I see. The old "if I don't shoot them the neighbor will" is very, very true.

Neighbors made it another 100%-eliminate-every-mature-buck-I-had-on-camera year (that is 4 in a row) right after Thanksgiving. Got the picture today. Amazing. I really do love those guys, and they are good friends, but they don't understand you can't kill every 3 year old buck and expect 5 year olds.

Ouch!

That will certainly will define the age class of your "hit list". I was happy to see so many (maybe 3) 3-year-old bucks on my place this first year but was a little concerned that I didn't have any older age class. I think passing 3-year-old bucks is pretty rare in most places.

My goal for the future is to create enough security, food, and activities (rubs, mineral licks, etc.) to keep the deer busy on my place. It will be challenging but fun.

At the end of the day all it takes is one HOT doe to ruin our plans!

Do the deer like your Rye in Jan/Feb? Great looking plot - wonder what kind of winter use it gets for you?

They hammer it. They're hammering it now and will continue until it starts to bolt in April.

Been a while since I posted anything in here, but here is a picture today of my crimson clover patch at The Farm with a little rape mixed in.

Man, you got some green going on in Georgia. Looks great. While I was grafting pear trees I noticed that these warm temps have kicked my plots into gear.
