The adventures of Elkie

On Wednesday in Luxembourg, Europe, Rowdy will be driven to Dusseldorf, Germany and fly to New York. On Wednesday evening a German lady will take Rowdy through customs and drive him to my door in Missouri, arriving Friday or Saturday.. Rowdy is from a carefully planned breeding and his father is a German Field Champion Wirehaired Dachshund. Rowdy is 10 weeks old and will be ready to hunt by next deer season. Rowdy will be included in the Adventures of Elkie, and I will post a pic of him upon arrival.

Elkie and Rowdy will be brought along on every track, but will track individually. Rowdy will be used for easy tracks and known dead deer to start the season, and I'm expecting great things. Additionally, the people in Europe are looking at bloodlines to select the ideal mate for Rowdy.

ER tracking crew.

Brush will Rowdy be about the same size of Elkie or will he be a larger dog?

He is 10 weeks old - so have they already started his training?

Do they put a chip in dog for identification? I only ask because every now and then a story will be on the news that a dog or cat was reunited with their owner because of a chip that a human society or vet scanned.

I am looking forward to this training program. Glad this new dog has worked out for you.

Rowdy was been chipped, tattooed, x-rayed for hips and back, seen by ophthalmologists, vets, and had his DNA tested by a breed warden. Rowdy is already doing liver drags in Luxembourg. Being male, Rowdy could be slightly larger than Elkie. About a week after Rowdy arrives he will be boarded at the vet while we are visiting family for Christmas, so Rowdy will be carefully examined again.

Rowdy will be trained daily for the next few months to imprint tracking whitetail deer, and his toys will be deer legs and antlers.

The dogs in Europe are trained to track what animals?

Us eastern guys think - Whitetail - Whitetail - Whitetail but this world is bigger than that.

Wayne

European deer are the small Roe Deer, Fallow Deer and Red Stag. Rowdy has been started on Roe Deer liver drags, but will sleep with a Whitetail leg in his crate, and will do whitetail liver drags with deer leg for the next 2-3 months.

Rowdy - riding in style. Not much doubt, this dog is special.

Going to be a treat to follow along on this tracking journey. :)

Tracking rates will remain reasonable, because my main goal is to help the hunter find the deer. I'm hoping success will increase, but the dog is only as good as the hunter's shot, and Elkie is pretty amazing! However one dog can't track day after day, so Elkie needed help.

I have also bought a female. The female is in Canada and I had my contact in Europe check the Deutscher Teckel Club Registry for bloodlines and they are tops! The female is two weeks old and won't be shipped until she is 12 weeks. The Canadian dogs are used to track moose for Canadian Outfitters, and are only sold to trackers. So there will be top quality blood tracking puppies in the future. Rowdy and the new female are both from the best tracking bloodlines on the planet.

The best dog in the world requires proper training, and with blood tracking dogs the training is continuous.

Pics of Rowdy tonight... maybe.

I can't wait to see the future pics of a whole pack of "wiener dogs" built for tracking down wounded deer. What did Elkie think of the new side kick? Good stuff Brush.

Brush,

I would like to get a pup when you have a litter. My wife will just have to modify her position.

Looking forward to Rowdy's debut on this site.

You got, but that will be over a year, and probably two, because I won't breed the 1st season.
