Stone Branch, build it, they will come.

Thanks TC, are you enrolled into any government programs?

I've about sprinkled everything that I need to up in the snake plot.

Not at the present time and haven’t been in past 8 or 9 years. Did early on and worked out well for me.

BTW…I have to rest for an hour or two every time I open your thread. Sheez! You one hard working man George.

George - A long, long way from where you started but still a long way to go. This has been an interesting, entertaining, educational and physically tiring thread to follow! Don't know how you do it.

Thanks, TC.

No gimmies today, at one point I was thinking about my intestines dropping down into my nut sack. Dimensions top and bottom right on, posts are perpendicular to gravity, and when I released the cross cable, my diagonals were/are dead nuts.

I was in Michigan for a couple of weeks working in my shop and while I was away the coyotes played.

After getting half my work done in Michigan I packed up and moved my shop to KY, now I'm working and hunting.

I'm facing some tough conditions this year. My green patch up on the ridge was browsed clean of green by early October and I'm guessing about a 95% acorn mast failure property wide. My neighbors put out tons of corn so I'm now corning up.

DSC05921 (1200 x 800).jpg

I had Goofy under me one time in October with about 5 minutes left in legal shooting time, he needs more years to mature.

IMG_0460 (1200 x 675).jpg

I did get one thing figured out, the 10pt that I had in velvet

IMG_0060 (1200 x 675).jpg

is actually the big 10 that I wanted to encourage to shift his core area onto my ground.

IMG_0032 (1200 x 675).jpg

I have zero hard horned pictures of him this year. By this time last year I had lots of pictures of him.

IMG_0037 (1304 x 733).jpg

I come to find out that he is alive and well and all the rage with the hunters on the lease to the north of me. I saw daytime pictures of him at their bait station that sits up on my north fence line. Anything can happen, so I'll keep an eye out for him.

Right now, my 2 best likely shooters are both big mature, 5 year or + old, 8 pointers who may be 120".

Bully buck

and target 8

IMG_0293 (1200 x 675).jpg

There was a good bit of rubbing and scraping going on for about a week until this past weekend, hot and wind, I had zero daytime pictures of deer. We now have a waning moon and cold coming, looks good for gun.

Target 8 spent lunch hour under the kill zone stand on election day.

There was a female in the mix.

I bought a new tool on election day before they are banned. I got delayed so I had to wait 3 days to buy it. I swiped a 2x7 shotgun scope off of a shotgun.

DSC05934 (1200 x 800).jpg

I bore sighted the gun on a 50 yard target by looking through the barrel. I then shot two and then ran patches, repeating this 5 times.

DSC05931 (1200 x 800).jpg

It was getting to be deer time, so I finished up with 3 semi quick shots at 97 yards.

DSC05932 (1200 x 800).jpg

So my original thinking of a 50 yard zero was right on, according to one of my ar buddies. He said 50 yard zero, a couple high at 100, and back to zero at 200.

I'm pretty happy with my purchase so far. Reviews mostly say that the nickel-plated trigger assembly is a cut above regular mill spec. Perhaps so but I'm accustomed to a 1 1/2 lb trigger on my Encore and accu triggers on my Savages. Rise Armament has a crisp, 3 1/2lb trigger assembly that I may look in to.

Timney or Chip McCormick triggers are good too. I have both and really have no preference. Both beat the hell out of the milspec triggers and both are easy to install. Good luck on that high eight, nice looking buck !

Thanks Drycreek, I installed a Timney one time in my Knight 54 caliber that I sure was proud of.

I guess yours is a .223/5.56 ? I rebarrelled two of mine to 6.8 SPC, a much better cartridge for hogs and deer, although I don’t deer hunt with it, I have killed a couple axis does and a bunch of hogs and coyotes.

3 days of sitting in the wind with little to show by eye or camera

IMG_0224 (1200 x 900).jpg

has given me ample time to look to the heavens and think about the 8

IMG_0056 (1201 x 676).jpg

or the 10, who I have zero pictures of this fall hunting season. He has lit up the cameras on my border ridge above me to the north and beyond for the folks on the lease next door. He has gone cold on their cameras too this past week, which may be a good sign for me.

IMG_0030 (1200 x 675).jpg

2 bucks that will probably die up on the ridge in their sleep from natural causes.

Back in the real world eyes and cameras were full of bucks last week, mature bucks during the day, my concern was lack of doe. This week the doe are here and the bucks are scarce. Target 8 who has always paraded around in front of me in years past hasn't been seen. He is the breeder buck and has been working overtime spreading his little antler seeds.

IMG_0038 (1200 x 675).jpg

Barring misidentification, a 10 from last year that disappeared in November has returned for this November.

IMG_0511 (1200 x 675).jpg

He has been one of the most consistent

IMG_0140 (1200 x 675).jpg

but I'm have trouble calling him a target.

IMG_0247 (1200 x 675).jpg

I may be reconsidering as I am too with Goofy. On this day we, me and Goofy, crossed paths on our way (time is a bit slow on the second camera, also, cameras are still on daylight savings time)

IMG_0006 (1200 x 675).jpg

IMG_0055 (1201 x 676).jpg

and we ended our day with both of us 200' up the hill, him bedded 40 yards down below me. His body from rump to shoulders filled the field of view on my 8x binos. I was thinking that he was younger than he is and could grow out of his current predicament, then yesterday I hear my neighbor telling one of the guys about Goofy who he tried to shoot 3 years ago. Goofy is older than newer, which is great I have a target buck and this always makes me feel better.

The highs and lows of deer season in Kentucky are mild compared to those I experienced in Iowa, Figure I'll just give it another day, the winds have finally stopped howling.
