Silent Deer Feeder

Good job, Matt. I have one of the quiet feeders and you replicated it almost exactly. A lot cheaper than the alternative...

I had always planned to try to make my own, but never got around to it. My dad was wanting one, may attempt to make one for him after seeing yours...

Nice build Matt.....especially like the use of the door lock actuator with the added spring.

Just curious, is there a reason that you prefer a quiet feeder rather than a spin cast??

There are several theories. One is that some of the more skiddish deer may be scared by all the noise a spinning feeder makes. In reality I’ve found that most deer get used to the noise and when they hear it they come running. The problem is if you have hogs they also hear it and come running. More times than not the hogs beat the deer to the corn or they just run the deer off when they get there. An feeder that doesn’t make noise may give the deer a chance if they happen to check for the corn pile before the hogs. Also, if you hunt on public land a silent feeder could be handy and not give up the location of your “spot” to other hunters.

Thanks. I figure I have around $50-$60 in this one if you don’t count the battery which I already had. The biggest expense being the enclosure and timer.

Got it put out yesterday. Working good so far. Have it set to feed only once a day for 7 seconds until the deer find it.

Oh and my son insisted on spreading a five gallon bucket of corn on the ground for the “deers” so in case you’re wondering why there’s already so much on the ground that’s why. Lol

Matt,

Im curious why you want a silent feeder

My feeders seem to act as dinner bells that draw every critter in the forest

Best pic so far. They are still a little unsure about it. Been out less than a week.
