Sign question

I was thinking about having some custom no trespass signs made up. I was thinking thin plastic signs would be maybe $10-15 but most everything I see online is closer to $30. Anybody else done this and have a good place to suggest?

I recommend getting metal signs. Plastic weathers poorly. A google search for metal no trespassing, no hunting signs will give you lots of options.

My plastic ones I started out with lasted 3-5 years. The ones that I put out 7 years ago that are metal look the way they did when I put them up. I had one part of my property along a road that I posted that the signs were repeatedly ripped off the post or the post was pulled out of the ground. I got the metal ones, put them on green treat plywood and screwed them every inch around the perimeter with a two inch screw sticking through the backside. Then I applied bearing grease liberally on the entire backside of the sign and over the entire steel post. I haven't lost a sign since(5 years).

If you are looking at custom signs, you are paying for the sign and the vinyl graphics that go on it. Vinyl is sold by the square foot and the more writing they can get on it, the cheaper it will be for you.

Ex.- Depending on letter size and font, "No Trespassing" might take up 3ft of vinyl. If vinyl is $9 sqft and the sign itself cost $2, you end up having to pay a lot of money for a little sign. 3x9=18+2= $20, then throw in some labor for them having to apply the graphics and you are at $30 pretty fast. I worked at a sign shop for 8 years and we tried to avoid the little signs because it was labor intensive and cost the customer so much. We sent them to another local company that had more vinyl cutting machines, more employees and bought more of that type of material so they could do it cheaper. We did more large building signs and temporary neighborhood signs.

I use the premium plastic signs from Voss. They come with your name and address printed on them if you wish. They are 1/8 inch thick, self supporting and have pre drilled holes. These signs are at least 15 years old and show no fading. I really believe they would last 50 years. If you buy 100 they are a tad over $3 a piece.

I use Voss Signs too, they make great signs. I would steer clear of the light plastic signs, I've had some squirrels take them out occasionally and wind pulls them off as well. Would get the metal signs if I had to do over.

I'm learning quickly that it's not cheap!

Thanks, the cost of metal scared me off at first but I'm sure long term it's the way to go.

Metal signs 11 and 1/4 square purchased by a 100 units are $1.09 apiece plus shipping. We also buy from Voss and have our name and address pre-printed on the signs, also very reasonable.

I use live and dead trees and also use posts if no trees are in the right spot. I always use backboards and on live trees leave some nails proud a half of an inch. If pounding nails all the way in on a live tree it is only a few years and the sign is pushed off the tree by tree growth.

I use seriouspropertymarkers.
$1.49 a piece. No backer board required. Seems like their virtually indestructible. Time will tell.

Use aluminum nails too. Less damage to the tree from corrosion and a loggers chainsaw will appreciate it later down the road.
