Rootstock top experimentation time!

If you'd like to try and get a few free rootstocks be sure and shove the leftover tops when you graft in a place you can keep damp all year.
Last year I had no takers on b118, but Chuck and I both had several antonovka takes.
He used rooting hormone, I didn't with about the same outcome.
These are g890 I did in March with hormone that are showing growth, one of them about an inch already!
To early to say if they'll make it or not, but I may get a few freebies again.

Have either of you tried making any stool beds? I’m gonna try some stuff this year I started one late last summer and it put roots out and transplanted it earlier this year. I just had some failed grafts and didn’t want to move the rootstocks.

That should work out fine. Seems like Rick has one he gets a lot of free rootstock from.
I have both smokey mnt limbertwig and summer champion you sent growing btw!

Did you use them to topwork or graft onto rootstocks. I haven’t started grafting much I want to too work some but thought it may be too early. I think it’s gonna be warm enough now though.

Grafted them to antonovka rootstock. Chuck may have top worked them to a tree at his house. I'm not sure, he has quite a few on the one tree.

Quick update, my g890 tops and several antonovka are looking promising.
I'm thinking the b118 tops are a year two failure. They put out leaves, but then no growth and are now slowly browning.
I think Chucky has a few g890 tops going as well.
