Quapaw Meadows (My 160 Acres)...

I noticed you're dry, but the pears are looking good, how are your apples?

All my apple trees are doing alright. I don't have any apples though. Lost everything to a very early spring and then a freeze. It would have been my first year of apples and pears. I had so many blooms and was excited but knew it was bad when they were flowering in mid march.

WooHoo - neighbor just texted me and said I just got 1" of rain. Haven't had that much rain at one time in a while.

You have a lot of gook looking bucks and some late fawns. I have been getting pics of some fairly new spotted fawns the last few weeks. Must have been some late breeding this year. Looks like you are doing well with the shoulder recovery:D I had the same issue with sunflowers/cowpeas/soybeans as you. I disced in the peas and beans, bush hogged the sunflowers that grew and sowed wheat a couple days ago, dove shoot next Saturday!

When does that persimmon tree drop? I found two new large persimmon trees today on a fence row, and they look about the same. I think they may be late droppers because the deer I killed last year was coming back from that direction, and it was well past acorn drop. I don't want to go back and check them before bow opener, but it's probably where I will be...

They start dropping around the end of October and drop through all of November

Dog I really enjoyed reading through your posts! Great work and keep the updates coming. Property looks great. How far is it from your residence?

Thank you Sam. It takes me right at 50 minutes to get to my land. Not a bad drive at all.

Fall plots are in. This was probably my easiest fall planting in a long time. As I posted earlier I built a new tower stand on the edge of a bedding area. Last year all the deer were holding out in this area about 30 minutes before sunset and then show up on my larger boggy bottom plot right at end of legal light. So I decided to build a little transition plot. It failed this spring with too many weeds. So 2 weeks ago I sprayed gly and then went back last wednesday and spot sprayed anything still green.

Lots of blackberry vines on the ground and of course they just laugh at gly. However, they can be shaded out to be eliminated. So on this new plot, which is just a tad over 1/2 acre, I planted 50# of cereal grains (even amounts of wheat, rye, and oats), 1# of DER, 2# Daikon Radishes, 3# Ladino Clover, and 5# of sunfowers.

Here is the view out of the stand:

And to the Northwest is the former fescue field:

I got lazy this year and decided to try something new for my main plot. I had some good patches of clover but most the plot was just grown up in crabgrass. So 2 weeks ago I sprayed cleth and today I broadcasted my seed in the dead/dying grass. After broadcasting the seed I tilled the area only 1" deep. I've never broadcasted seed and then tilled. This saved a lot of time because since I was tilling so shallow I could pull the tiller a little quicker. Plus it saved 1 step on covering the seed.

Finally finished up with my 2.25 acre clover/chicory. The plot is doing great and getting a lot of deer numbers. I don't know how well this is going to work but I overseeded 50# rye, 50# wheat, 25# of oats, 3# DER, 3# radishes, and 10# of sunflowers. With the clover and chicory being so thick I doubt I will good germination.

Lots of passion flower blooming right now--with lots of Passion Butterflies close by.

looks like you got some good options as far as bucks go there Doc. Hopefully you will be physically ready to go as well.

Throw and Till should work great at that depth. I have been watching 10 day forecast and have not found a planting date yet.

Good looking crop of bucks! Pray for rain, I got my plots planted this weekend and the rain forecast has vanished:mad:
