Pinetag's Plot - 43 acres in Virginia

I got a little bit done this morning before the rain picked up. It has been raining for a couple days straight so everything is saturated right now. I started with raking the leaves out of my small food plot and then frost seeding some oats and clover.

Then I planted a couple hazelnut seedlings. I'm going to cage them next weekend.

My hinge cuts from last spring are seeing some winter usage on the buds this year...

I have a few survivors down along the river where I put this camera on my new atv path that has a deer trail intersecting it. It looks like the one in the back has already lost his right side.

I got a pic of the little buck I saw on my first ever sit on the property. It would be cool to watch him grow for a couple more years.

There's definitely a lot of usage down along the river. This is the most deer I've gotten in a single pic.

I got my second micro plot put in this morning. It's in an area that's already being used as a travel corridor heading toward last year's bigger hinge cut. I had hinged a few smaller trees in here but it didn't provide much browse or cover so there was little use. So today I cut back quite a few trees to let in some sunlight, raked away a lot of the leaf debris, and then frost seeded oats and ladino clover. We'll see how it turns out.

It looks like bucks are starting to drop as you can see the pedicles on this one in the background. I briefly looked around but unfortunately didn't find any sheds.

Whatever this shrub is, the deer have been nibbling on it heavily.

This keifer pear tree I planted up by the cottage is doing pretty well. It's probably about 10' tall now and I'll be curious to see if it produces a couple pears this year. It was about 7' or 8' tall when I planted it last Mar.

Coming on good. Bucks here dropped several wks ago. Hard to beat pears for low maintenance and survival .

Seeing your pictures is sure making me anxious, I did to find some fresh ladino seeds.

I have several pears blooming but afraid of expected temps in the 20s this week! Couple of trees this is first year for blooms. Plums are going wild

Low maintenance is what I'm after! Crabapples and persimmons are next and should be here in a couple weeks.
