Pinetag's Plot - 43 acres in Virginia

I had to run out to the land after work and get a couple of items in preparation for the hurricane. I figured there's no need to go all that way and not get something accomplished so I ripped out one toilet as well as the bathroom quarter round to get ready to lay some more flooring.

The clover and rye has gotten plenty of moisture since seeding over the weekend with more in the forecast from hurricane Florence. Fortunately our rain forecast has dropped dramatically (1-3") so we're less likely to have flooding now, thankfully.

Winter rye appears to be coming in nicely and the deer seem to be destroying what's left of the beans. Look at the datestamps. On 9/13 you can see the residual bean plants with very little rye growth. On 9/16 the rye is blowing up everywhere. It's amazing what a few days of consistent rain will do! Still no bucks though.

Doesn't look like a whole lot of ladino clover has popped up yet but there was plenty of rain for germination. Hopefully it will really take off in the spring. Does this look like clover?

Got a lot of work done today. Did what will hopefully be the last mowing of the season down by the river pull off as well as around the yard.

Hung my first couple stands on the new property so we'll see how productive they turn out to be.

Second set. I did not hang it very high as it's up on a ridge overlooking the bottom so it's already well above the deers' line of sight and hopefully their nose as well. It is well hidden within a cedar tree right next to the one I hung it in.

Came across two of these rock piles on the way to hang the second stand. Old gravesites possibly? Any other thoughts?

Sometimes those rock piles were just gathered from a field and that's where they stored them
Good to know. My mind went to grave sites because they were elongated and about the size of a person.

As I was pulling up yesterday morning I also noticed that someone had slid through the intersection and into the edge of the property. They came to rest against a couple small trees and there were remnants of road flares laying in the road so obviously the police were there at some point. They had stirred up a yellow jackets nest in the ground where the car bottomed out. Glad it wasnt me that discovered it while limbing or mowing.

Got two more stands hung this morning so only two left to go, which I'll hopefully get done next weekend.

Also found a fresh scrape line not far from the ladder stand I just put up. Season is close!

Got my electric fireplace. It looks a little ridiculous in front of the big chimney but I cranked it up first thing this morning and went outside to get the stands. After just a few minutes it had already warmed the living room and started warming the kitchen. I will probably end up getting a wood stove in the future but for now this should provide some decent heat.

Did a little more flooring this afternoon. I've got a couple rows left in the back bedroom and then just the kitchen will be left, so I'm about 85% done with the whole place.

Got a pretty red on camera last week so that was a neat find.
