No luck here, week in the woods putting in about 75 miles over the whole trip. Heard one bugle, but never even saw an elk. Disappointing first elk hunt to say the least. Saw some amazing sights and met some awesome people, excited to get back after them next year!

We went near Grand Lake, CO last week. Never saw an elk, or heard a bugle. Driving through RMNP, it was pretty clear the bulls weren't amped up at all...

That's wild. We hunted 8-31 through 9-4 and heard bugling everyday despite record heat where it was nearly 90* each day. I talked to my buddy the other day and he told me they really got going good last week with the cooler weather and temps in the 20's at night.

Was that near Grand Lake? I am not too familiar with the area, but the buddy I went with said it receives a lot of pressure. They may have just not been where we were. But the bulls we saw in RMNP were definitely just out feeding. The ladies were off by themselves.

No, we were in the NW corner of the state. They were definitely behind schedule while we were there opening week and the heat didn't help either. We heard more bugling in the afternoons than the mornings and some groups of cows did not have a bull with them yet which is pretty unusual. The count down for our elk hunt in 2020 has already begun.
