Ohio Farm Tours

Your place looks great Buck! I need to see an aerial of this place. Seems like you have 10 different food plots! Plenty to keep you busy I see.

Thank you Sam. I honestly don't have that many plots. I have 5.
1. Stonehenge about (2 acres)
2. Big plot (1 acre)
3. Pine Plot (1/8th of acre)
4. Double Stand Plot (just under .5 acres)
5. Barn Plot ( 1/8th of acre)

I also have a small gas well opening that I have planted clover in, a power line strip I planted cover in as well that is near barn plot. I also have the entire yard over-seeded in clover. I have planted a lot of my fruit trees in the yard as well.

Looks like a productive weekend. Sorry to hear about the brassicas. I had that happen one year with too much rain. You burn a lot of wood like me, I have been called a pyromaniac more than once.

;)

I'm having the same issue with a lack of mature bucks on camera. I know they're around, just wondering what's up. Pretty sure the increased number of does & fawns have pushed them a little further out.

Well have

I do have a crazy obsession with never wanting to run out of firewood. Between home and the farm I have to have 5cords just for this year alone haha. I don't heat with wood only either.

I am starting to get deer on camera behind the house, finally. At the farm they roam and I get them then they are gone. I know I have some big cruisers around because last Nov I found rubs on trees I couldn't even fit my hands around. I won't hunt the farm in SE Ohio till around end of Oct or Nov. Then it will be game time......At least that is when I will start hunting hard.

Well today was a good day around the house. I tell you if I move a camera that is when the deer go to the next area. Good news is deer have found my chicory.

This evening a few more deer showed up on in the orchard.

Boy do I love watching deer eat the clover/chicory that I planted. This is a small plot and I used BOB seed. I can tell you the deer are smashing it!

I also had to pickup a new pack of broad heads. I just couldn't pass these up. They seem to just make sense from a engineered standpoint to me. I have shot rages in past but want to see what these can do for us.

Thank you. I only own 7 acres at home but it keeps me busy and happens to be in a fairly good area for big bucks. I have permission to hunt the neighbor's as well so I can hunt 20acres but a few other guys hunt that area too so I stay off it and just stick to mine. I don't know what I would do if I couldn't shoot my bow daily, check cameras, garden, etc. I have type A personality and have to keep going all the time.

That's awesome that you can do that from home, makes me jealous![/QUOT

Looks good Buck. I don't hunt woods at my house but almost hit bachelor group of 4 bucks as I left the driveway yesterday. If they eat my shrubs again this year, I might have change of attitude.

If you got a few acres, why not bow hunt it? I need to break up my time at the farm and get my hunting fix in between so it makes it well worth it to have a few stands out back.

I have noticed that the brassicas seem to be getting smashed down. I am assuming this is from deer walking through it? What are your thoughts?

Thank you sir! I am hoping for a few more to show up, as we all know the hunt to kill ONE mature buck makes things very hard. However, if you have a couple big deer, crossing paths becomes a bit easier.

Well I went back today to check on my plot. I have been seeing deer almost every day/night from the house. They are crushing my clover, radish, chicory plot. I think this damage is from the deer? I noticed this today, and it wasn't torn up like this a couple days ago. I did notice an increase in deer pictures on this plot as well. This is a brassica mix.

Buck I haven't gave an opinion cause in all the years growing brassica, I've never seen that happen. It's not deer stomping them I don't think because I've had plots full of deer and never seen any damage other than their eating. Lack of rain could be but my experience, once they are that far along, the handle drought quite well. Excess rain maybe could cause it or insect damage perhaps. But I can't really say. Aliens?

I have had 20-30 deer in a small plot at a time on home 10 and never seen anything like that...they look more wilted than smashed down...
