Ohio Farm Tours

Well no major updates. Spent the weekend at farm
  1. Pulled 2 stands
  2. Hung one new set on ridge plot, need to trim lanes but its PRIMEO
  3. Stonehendge and big plot have good growth (alfalfa, clover, chicory) but lots of grass. It is a first year planting so I am going to let it grow till AUGUST. I will then mow it, over-seed with oats/rye/turnips into the clover. I don't think I want to spray this year -thoughts?

Some pictures:
Finished that EURO mount on the dead head, happy how he looks in the cabin.

Last my brother in lay and best buddy splitting some firewood, got about 1.5 cords split. My best bud lost his grandma the next day - keep his family in your thoughts and prayers, that was a bummer call to get on the ride home.

Have you every over seeded oats and rye in your clover before. Just curious how well it germinated, I have a clover plot that's a little thin and didn't know if oats and rye would germinate laying on top of soil

yes, oats/rye will about grow on the driveway. I have also done it into turnips - based thickness of turnips, it can or cant be successful.

No major reports. I did get an acre planted behind the house and it rained 2 days later. We have rain forecasted every day next week so timing might have been perfect.

Planted
Plot one - clover, radish, chicory, oats
Plot two - turnip, radish, oats
I had to put down 6-24-24 and urea on them both.

I’ll update as they grow.

Farm plan
Will plant farm first week of August
Oats, radish, turnips - getting planted
Lanes trimed
Stands hung
Fert and lime spread
Plots mowed
Plots sprayed

Check cameras- busy times!

Well going to be at farm this week.

Adding lime to high point plot
Adding fert to plots
planting pine, tire, highpoint, pipeline and lane - turnip/radish mix (some will be tilled, some will be spray and spread)
Need to bush-hog plots
Spray with Post plus- hopefully
2 or 3 stands to hang - need to trim lanes.

Got a few small plots planted behind house as well (2 weeks after planting)

We have gotten even more rain so these plots have grown a lot this past week.

Looking good Al. I’m headed to my place tomorrow for a couple days. Looking forward to lots of work time, a campfire and a quiet cabin.

Well here is a great little kill plot. We call this Pine plot and the ones who have followed along have seen this before. This is 20 days after spraying GLY. Talk about a good kill!

very happy to see a new plot (Ridge Plot) coming up so well, this is a brand new plot that was created by a Dozer this year.

Below is a new stand hung over this plot:

Above ridge plot is Tire plot - my cousin shot his buck there last year. This year it is planted in brassicas this year. The lane between ridge and tire should be a good one and the ridge stand is right between them.

Another new stand, on the stand we call highpoint!

Enjoying the ride-along buckhunter!

Thanks sir!

Well been in WV all week for work and at farm today before heading back to WV tomorrow. The plots are actually showing growth. It’s been 5 days. I am amazed.

Almost caught an asshole dumping trash but wasn’t able to get a view of him. Never ending battle in Appalachia.

Thanks for following along.

Not much to report. going to become my nieces godparents with my wife - thats very exciting. I am shooting a lot and the Mathews Heli-M is treating me well.

Got a new set hung behind the house in a triple maple along an oak ridge, my cousin just about killed me when I pulled out the 25 foot sticks, I like the stands HIGH and tucked.

Final farm tweaks will come over labor day weekend. One plot did go unplanted this year, it was a new plot and just didnt get around to getting it done. O well, I guess having more land, means you cant do it ALL in one year! Next year I will have more plots/stands set.

Things look like they are progressing well. Plots look good, deer look great. And yes, deer do like ragweed, both common and giant! I see it browsed even when it's right next to a field of green soybeans all the time.

Well Here is a quick update

Tomato's from the Garden that I made in sauce - LOVE homemade sauce!

Some decent shooting I had done this year - 20,30,40,50 - ready!

Lastly, I decided to mow off some oats last evening. The grass was competing and getting tall within the oats, so I mowed it off and I am happy to see the clover is looking great underneath. I now have radish/brassica over seeded into it and rain is coming soon. Excited to see how this might work!
