But then I kind of kept the deer out after June.....

So what a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon! Luke and I squeezed 2 bushels through this little press in no time and came out with 4 gallons of absolute liquid gold.

We put anything into the press. Usually its our less than ideal apples. This year's mix was Golden Del., Jonagold, Liberty, and Grimes Golden. And then a handful of odd and end apples. Luke did some squeezing on it.

The apples had been left in the barn for a week and were getting soft. Just perfect for juicing.

Those deer of mine get the uglier apples. Don't worry, they are well fed around here. But they aren't getting this nectar! Good luck with your apple trees!

Beautiful, beautiful and more beautiful. Making cider from your own apples on your ground with your son is just so great. You have your priorities so straight Fish. Turn it into hard cider and we'll all come over, well maybe not all of us but many of us for sure.

Once in this town before highways and good refrigeration, hard cider was the main product of the area according to history books.

That is a fine compliment. Thanks Chainsaw. The hard stuff has a rich history for sure. And i know why!

Indiana has historic ties to hard cider, too. Governor W. H. Harrison ran a "hard cider" campaign for president, to show his solidarity with the common man, as opposed to Van Buren's champagne swilling elitism. Funny looking back, and seeing how little has truly changed.
