I love my 1911....I mean the one I used to have....

I have a matte stainless colt combat target model...dang it...used to have...in 45acp. It was my primary carry firearm, before I lost it fishing one day.... I'm a bigger fella (6 feet plus and 275) so I could hide it fine. It was also the first thing I grab when something goes bump in the night at the house.... I live out in the country so my 9-1-1 comes with a "1" in front of it!

I like the simplicity of them and everybody under the sun seems to make various upgrade parts and the like for them. I bought mine prior to the poly frame guns really catching on. I like a single stack pistol as I feel like I have a better grip on them as well vs the double stack pistols. Yes I know that double stack tends to mean more ammo in the gun. But with 45 acp...the plan is to only have to shoot once! I would also stick with reputable manufacturers. Nothing drives me crazy more than when I hear people say..."I'm buying it for protection, but I don't want to spend a lot of money" Well....my thought is, apparently you don't think your life is worth a lot then! I'm not saying you need a $1,000 pistol, I am saying if you are going to defend your life with it...get something of quality, which comes at a price.

I can't say I am familiar with the SDS brand....

At this point, you might be better off finding a large quantity of ammunition in any caliber and then purchasing the corresponding firearm, than to try and find any specific ammo. Just a thought.

IMO, you buy only one type of AR or 1911. Colt.

Doesn't mean the rest are crap, but Colt is the original and can be had for about the same price.

Ammo is readily available...it's just not cheap right now (or anymore).

Agree about Colts however they are double the price of the remington

I won a Kimber custom II at a National Turkey Federation dinner. I really like it. I don’t carry it because of it’s size but I really like the way it feels in my hands.

God opened up the heavens and cast complete wisdom upon John Browning the day he created the 1911. It just fits like none other, then and now.

I've shot several Kimbers and liked most of them really well. Also shoot a Rock Island quite a bit that is a workhorse.

I loved my Kimber 45 until I recently sold all my guns and now don't own any..........

I remember that day and just how sad it was for you.

Just like it was for me in that tragic boating accident when I lost all mine.

Yes, I remember. I still have hope you can eventually find some of your fishing poles.

I guess I really am the odd man out. While I agree that John Moses Browning was a genius and 1911s are great pistols, I just don’t care for them. I’ve owned several and didn’t keep any of them. S&W M&Ps and Glocks are more to my liking for self defense pistols. Ten millimeters and .40s. And I still have mine, no terrible boating accident here:)

I have a Kimber with the aluminum frame and love it. If I could rewind time, I'd buy one with a stainless steel frame (aluminum wears out faster). Crimson trace grips are a must.

If I could rewind time I would go back and buy 10,000 SKS's at $89 each, and 10,000 government surplus 1911's (marked Propert of US ARMY). If I had done that I would currently be neighbors with Baker in Mexico!
