Live from the Stand 2018

Quick run out to grab cards after the turkey meal and there was a young 8 point buck laying in the middle of the plot. I didn’t see him until I got well into the plot. He got up and stretched and just trotted to the tree line and then slowly walked away...

Trail cams show a very, very rare daytime photo of my target deer...

That deer is a tease for sure Okie!! Good for you that you got excited and luckily for you that you missed cleanly.I bet it will be a long time before another miss though excited or not. And stay away from them neck shots. Good luck tomorrow; your deer is acting pretty foolish. Close the deal soon.

This is not the deer I missed. This deer is a home deer and the one I missed is a deer lease deer. This deer is the one my wife said was literally 20 yards out behind our house with a doe this morning. He is killable now but the wind is not right at all for our property...unless I hunt from the house...

I do love living here because we had family out for Thanksgiving and everyone was sitting around after turkey watching a movie but I sat at the dining room table watching an 8 point buck chasing does all over our backyard for 2 hours...I was watching for the big deer but he did not show this evening in our yard. This is the only afternoon since Saturday I have not hunted but I had a plan anyway ;)

I am mid property with a 20+ mph SE wind which is far from ideal. Moon was up and full all night and it is 47 degrees. I do believe mid day will be better for movement. I have seen 1 small 5 point buck that was browsing a small short leaf pine and later I saw the turkey flock headed to the South Plot...

2A055340-7426-4539-AB03-122BE5C55750.jpeg I’m in a box blind this morning overlooking an L shaped wheat plot. Had a young buck just at daybreak and then this hungry doe at about 7:15. I imagine she was chased half the night because she kept watching her back trail. She fed in the wheat for 40/45 minutes, most of the time within bow range. She was close enough that I couldn’t even pee and I was glad when she moved off a ways. :(

Saw 3 young bucks, 1 doe, and a flock of turkeys this morning. Got rained out by 9. Got around and went to town to pay a couple of bills and run by our “Home 10” to check on it. As I was pulling down into the property I saw 6 does and a young buck laying on the lawn. They skedaddled out of there and I made my way back home. Wind from the south - no good...didn’t go 40 yards and jumped a young forkie. Let’s try another way...uh oh 2 does stating at me after only 100 yards and they spook. Another 100 yards I see a young 8 point at the feeder down in the woods. I can sneak past...get 30 yards past him and several deer due north start snorting and bouncing around so the young 8 leaves. Deer still running ahead of me and I wait for the inevitable shot once they reach the fence...good, no shot...ease on to the stand I was thinking of sitting and see the turkeys a little ways off scratching around. Tie rifle to pull cord and deer starts blowing directly downwind....dang it. Hate being here today because I am just educating all the deer. Now I am within 75 yards of the N fence hoping to see a buck that either comes in from the east or west to our old North Plot I have not done a thing with in 2 years and is still loaded with clover...wait and see...

Okie, I have the boys in stands in the woods but cant get picture to upload or resize. Front moving in, windy, so here goes!! Wish them luck!

Just had a great classic hot doe being chased by an amorous 2.5 yr old that at 1time was 1 foot from the base of my ladder stand...hope grand pappy finds her trail...

In the woods solo this evening. Got out for the first time Wednesday afternoon to hunt. Forgot to put on my harness. So instead and risky my life over a deer I didn't climb up and went and found a blind. The only blind I had for the right wind was in an 80 acre block we just clear cut. Just reserved the afternoon to glassing. Seen a really nice 2 year old 10pt come in. I hope he gets smart and makes it.

Have rain moving in right at dark. Hopefully they'll be on their feet a little early. They are all full aware that deer season is in full swing.

Have a Elusive Technologies Blind Side-R light on the corn pile so I’ll be here a little while after dark to see if a hog comes out. Already heard them squealing to the West of me. Just a matter if they’re going to come to the bait or not.

No deer. The neighbors were driving golf carts and shooting squirrels on the other side of the swamp. There were a ton of ducks landing as I was getting down. Might try for some of them instead of deer in the morning.

Nothing for me. Heard a few hogs but they never came in to the feeder.
