Lil down south shrimp n grit action from Saturday nite

I'm a yankee, and I like grits. But you've got to know how to doctor them up, like at cracker barrel, I melt a pat of butter on them while I eat the rest of my breakfast, then mix in half a little bottle of maple syrup and they taste like caramel candy.

Maple candy with grits.

The best I have found to eat grits is to get a bowl, put a whole stick of butter on them, 1lb of sugar, mix well, throw the grits away and eat the bowl.

You keep upping the ante. Is that an invite? I actually like southern food (and southern hospitality), I've had mighty fine eating memories from down south, random places like Floyd's Cajun in Beaumont Tx comes to mind and my mouth starts to water.

I’ll try anything once, but I haven’t found a grits recipe that I like. I’ve eaten grits from Ohio to Florida and my home state of Tennessee. Still taste like grits.

Menn - You ever come close to Athens, GA just give me a shout and I'll have you a plate of southern goodness waiting.

You come anywhere close to Lancaster county Pa and I'll take you to Shady Maple Smorgasbord. I know this is going to sound like I'm exaggerating, but this is the the top rated food place in the midatlantic region.

May just do that. I travel to Harrisburg at least once a year on biz. I've spent a little down time up there just riding thru Amish country. Beautiful farms.

Grits are corn based. Most of the time when you buy them, they are labeled as Hominy Grits. I’m from the south and won’t touch them.

OK Guys........can someone please educate a northerner. That dish looks amazing but what the hell is grits. Is it corn or wheat based?

Trust me, we all have our local dishes.....when I'm visiting Newfoundland cod tongues and scrunchions is a must have with an ice cold black horse beer!

Grits are common fare in the South, mainly a breakfast food but Shrimp and grits was born in the South Eastern coastal region. South Carolina low country and Georgia. I grew up on grits and like them most anyway I've had them but Shrimp and grits has to be my favorite....if they're done right.
