Kansas-seedlings

I just received these seedlings and wanted to share them. I normally order from Oklahoma but decided to try some containerized trees from Kansas as they have fall sales. Oklahomas trees always arrive when its 15 degrees out or bone dry in January.

These are oriental arborvitae and have shown to be a great tree on 4' of heavy bayou gumbo clay that won't grow johnsongrass in most spots.

Most of these seedlings are over 2' tall and look great for sweating it out all weekend at the UPS warehouse. They look about twice the size of the bare root oklahoma seedlings.

I'm using these as a property screen from neighbors but they will help with the small critters as well. I have 3 rows planted staggered so it fills in thick. This tree doesn't ever get mentioned but it has survived growing in the middle of weeds with no supplemental watering. It does need full sun and like most conifers doesn't like water.

I've never ordered those particular trees but I tend to make an order from KS Forestry every year just because they are often decent trees and I like to support local. Those look great by the way!

I never ordered containerized trees from them because I couldn't stomach the thought of digging holes for 25 potted trees. Never realized the containers were that small. I am rethinking everything now! :D

I use a small auger. I have broken and returned 2 drills but it really speeds up planting. I suck with a spade in clay and rocks.

Hmm, that's a heck of an idea...
