Kaleo Hills-Property tour

Heavy ice arrived in the area the night of November 14th. Trees and limbs were dropping so I took the day off and added 20 pounds of WR to my plot and the rest on a few haul roads.

The ice isn’t great for tree survival but makes a nice picture.

Found a very active rub line late in the game. Hopefully my camera captures a few bucks this week.

Beautiful place you have. Ice was a mess, I had no power one day from all the downed trees. Enjoy Hawaii, looks to be a colder place when you move back.

Thank you dogghr, the ice really was a mess. Lots of trees down after that storm. About half the county lost power. I’m really looking forward to moving to the mountains but will continue to take advantage of all the unique hunting opportunities in Hawaii for now.

Enjoying your land tour Weekender and just love the deer photo in post 139. Not only is it a great mature deer that most of us are striving for but the picture backdrop is just perfect. These trail cams enable us to get some great photo's now and then and that photo is definitely great. Of course we would all like to see it at first light with the sun reflecting light off of his antlers but almost perfect is what keeps us pushing on and on I guess.

Thanks Chainsaw, checking cams is like opening Christmas presents. Especially after they’ve soaked for 3 or 4 months which is usually the case for me. I’ll post the highlights when I get everything sorted.

You will be surprised that over the next 20 years how much those mountains absorb moisture and swell and become taller and steeper for access!! Mine now reach to almost 15000 ft I think. Happy Birthday and Happy TG.

Thank you and Happy Thanksgiving to you! I believe you’re right about the hills getting steeper. I’m already thinking about electric bikes on groomed access trails!

Weekender...Belated happy 40th! Good Lord willing...lots of years in front of you to enjoy the land addiction and all the good things and good times that come with it. Looking forward to continuing your land journey on this site. And lastly, that is one cool cat pic.

Thanks TC!

I'm fortunate to get lots of trail cam pictures of bob cats but they're usually blurry because the cats are on a mission. I need to spend a little time locating a den. That would be a great place for a trail camera.

weekender your place is beautiful! thanks for dropping in over at mine, and glad I was able to catch up here. Some nice bucks and gorgeous country down there.

Thanks! Love learning through others property threads on here. I'm all caught up on the habitat podcast too, keep em coming.

Weekender, since you are far off , you might want to get one of the Spypoint Evo cameras. for the money I've been impressed with one I got as a gift this fall. And have cheap options for pics. Only problem, would be you batteries but you could do solar. Liked the ice pics, but you were enjoying island life when we had our worst ice storm this year.

I’ve been keeping an eye on trail cam technology, I think it will continue to become more affordable. Things are working without them but it would be nice to get updates on occasion.

Did you get another ice storm after I left (18 November). The storm on 14/15 November was impressive.

That big 8 is certainly a mature deer!! His body reminds me of a northern buck. I hope he makes it through to next season for you. Also liking the variety of critter pics you get on your place!

Yep another biggy this past early wk. at least for here.
Deer are chasing as much now as the rest of year. Mostly night time.

I'll have to ask my cousins or neighbors what it looked like in our area. Big ice storms are fairly rare in the area I'm in, 2 in one month is very interesting.

On another interesting weather note, the forecast is calling for 5-8 inches of snow on December 8th. That's the exact date we received our first significant snow last year.

Our peak breeding is late November, I'm sure they're still chasing in my neck of the woods too.

Thanks!

That 8 point is a tank for our area, it will be interesting to see if I get any more pictures of that deer. I'm looking forward to watching the trail cams as our clear cut areas mature and more security cover becomes available. Hopefully we'll have a few mature bucks calling our place home.
