Just heard about a horrific accident my older neighbor had with his quad.

As best they can tell he failed to keep up on his daily blood sugar checks and while driving his quad he passed out.

He hit a tree head on doing what the police estimate was 25-30mph. The man never drives fast so they can only attribute the speed to him passing out and somehow leaning on the thumb throttle. Well he went over the bars hitting the tree which broke his nose and multiple ribs, his left leg hit the handle bars which broke his femur in three places. Given his age (80), the extent of his injuries and that we are rural they called in a helicopter, but it could not land due to the confined area. So they were going to try and land further away, but I did not hear how that turned out.

Got an update that just prior to the Doc performing surgery on the his leg his kidneys went into failure. So they cannot attend to his leg until they get the kidney situation straightened out. I must say that is a whole lot of hurt for a guy that age. Despite the extensive injuries he is actually lucky because he had been laying out in his field and no one knew as he lives alone and another neighbor just happened to be taking a quad ride and decided to stop at his house instead of going straight off to hunt. Had the neighbor not stopped who knows what his fate would have been.

PSA You diabetics best keep up on your checks.

Horrible, thoughts and prayers. This is the neighbor that has helped you many times with your tractor?

Someone I know ?

Hey John,

Yep, it is Joe. A few of us had dinner with his last son-in-law and cousin last night. One of the friends said that they have him in some type of medically induced coma type state, he has been in this state since Sat.

They got the kidney thing sorted out and did the surgery on the leg, they put some type of plate in. The final count was two breaks in the femur not three, two broken ribs, the others are badly bruised, the nose, they also thought the left hand was broken, but it turned out just to be badly bruised. It was said that he did not suffer any type of brain injury.

PecanArcher, I will pass on your prayers to his family and the guys. Thank you.
