Well I'm putting the AWP to the test this year so we will see.
I found my seed receipt.
AWP - 50lbs = 44$
Cover crop wheat - 1 bushel = $16
Purple top turnips - 3 lbs = $6.40
Berseem clover - 4 lbs = $14
Crimson clover - 5 lbs = $8
That is the mix that I will have planted for my fall annual plots.

Welter sells 50lbs of 4010 forage peas for $24. My local co-op sold them for $26. Not a big deal if you’re planting a single bag of peas but if you’re planting several acres it adds up.

We all use what we have. I have access to free soybeans or year old RR soybeans for like $20 a bag if I need/want them. I have not messed with many other summer forages simply because I like the RR ability to control weeds. My beans do fine and even produce grain. I am hoping the AWP remains attractive thru late november and I can put a few deer in the freezer and maybe get a crack at a decent buck looking for a girl-friend.

I have 2 of them. They do OK. I am a big fan of video vs pics as I think it gives me more to see...but the quality of the image can suffer some. I had to step up from the stealth cams and the like as those would last a year or two tops and then be junk. My brownings have lasted a couple of years now. Yes I paid a little more....but sometimes you get what you pay for. My other cam is an Exodus....and I really like it.

Thanks.... This is the first time I have had a pic this early of something that I really wanted to see. I know where he was...now I have set up 2 other cams to see if I can figure out how he is getting there. I may never see that deer again...but he will certainly provide the motivation to get up in the morning.

I was out setting stands and the like and took a few pics.
Found a good use for a wire dog crate....makes a good exclusion cage! I overseeded some wheat into the plots a few days ago.
This is my best sawtooth...the cage is 5 feet tall.....
This is where the neighbor logged earlier.....looks like a lot of deer cover to me! That is where I hope my buck is hiding!!!

So I haven't posted many pics or updates because things have been pretty busy. I finally got all the stand sup and checked and even had my first hunt...for me...of 2020.
This is my north corner plot. I had a shooting house overlooking this plot but a storm removed it for me (two actually) so I didn't get this shooting house replaced....yet. So I put a stand in a smaller bur oak where I can still take advantage during gun season. The beans are now harvested and this plot/area has produced some nice deer for us in the past. Sorry the paste job is sort of crappy....sun was going down. As you can see ....great plot if, I'm hunting for a pick-up truck!!!! The tall stuff is a mix of piss-poor corn and some year old MG rhizomes for a long term screen at the edge of the crop field, the between the truck and the field that is an annual planting of peas, turnips and clover and some winter wheat. The main portion of the plot is going to be reseeded in clover and has some chestnut, sawtooth oak and a pair of small persimmons trees in it as well....nothing producing just yet.
Here is a picture of my South bottom plot (my biggest one at maybe 1/2 acre planted in the same mix. I think I need to go a little lighter on the turnips next year, but as you can see the peas and clover and turnips are doing pretty good. We need some rain....
Lastly...yesterday evening I got to hunt for myself for the first time this season. I am sitting near a neighboring property (where nobody hunt sand I have access to retrieve my deer if so needed). My woods was logged a few years ago and this property has a small 20 acres that was logged over the summer and also has a standing bean field. I am sitting roughly right at the corner of those 3 habitat changes. Oh....I also have my plot where the buck in the video was taken just 30 yards or so into my property as well. I can't shoot to it from this stand, but I know it's there. The plan is to try to catch bucks working this edge trying to scent check the newly logged area. I saw one nice doe, but that was it. No shooting opportunities....but it was nice to get out all the same.

I was out this morning looking for sign and pulled some cam cards....
The scraping and rubbing activity is going full bore here....and I moved a couple cams to try to see who the culprits are!
This little poplar tree took a recent beating...you can still see the fresh shavings on the ground.
These scrapes (2 pictured) 3 total are all about 12 feet or so from each other along a "ridge" I have....the "video scrap" is about 200 yards away as well. I hung a cam to see what I can learn.
This was a new development...2 scrapes right next to 2 decent rubs....up went another cam!

Now for the cam videos. I am certain these are two different young 10 pointers... they have been visiting this scrape now for the past week or so (sorry the date and time on the cam isn't correct). But between these two and the freak...I hope to see at least one of them.

So I did get out saturday morning (1 little buck and 3 doe but no shooting) but it's been too hot otherwise... I did pull an interesting sequence of a cam...
Little buck all bristled up....
Then the shoving starts....
I have seen this in person before but the first time I caught it on cam....they need to grow up!

Opening day of general firearms season here in Indiana...
This was the crew this morning...
We all went to the "battle wagon"...saw deer, saw some chasing, no shots to be had...had a good frost as well....
The boy and I went out this evening...again saw some deer, but no shooting opportunities..
Supposed to be windy tomorrow so we will see how it goes... 20mph with gusts of 40+....not sure about that.

So I had some success this morning!
First the layout and the view....
The layout.... I had been waiting to hunt this stand for a few days. I knew the standing corn would draw in the deer and I also know the deer LOVE the low spot in my field to enter/exit the cover to the west.
The view to the west... I was expecting the deer to come form the cover and either come thru the plot OR cut across the field to get to the standing corn.
I was getting frustrated because my "plan" wasn't working! I saw one doe 300+ yards away. About 8:00 I stood up and turned to watch the standing corn (I was keeping an eye on that all along). Sure as hell...a buck bounces out of the corn.... I needed the buck to come my way...first just to get on my property but also to close the 200 yard distance. For one reason or another the buck came to me...he got within 100 yards and I popped him. Off hand at 100 yards ain't easy from a swaying tree. The buck mule kicked and continued toward the low spot in my field. I was following him in the scope and was about to pop him again and he stopped. I wasted no time. Pop! Down he went. Both shots went thru the lungs and one nicked the heart.
He aint huge, but he meets our harvest target of "wide as his ears"...he is 16" outside spread, clean 8 points with a live weight of 215. With needing to fill a freezer he was a welcome sight. I typically don't hold out for a "target buck". I simply shoot the first one that meets the rules and don't look back.
