How Strung Are You?

In my olden days, I never let my recurve stay strung. I unstrung it as soon as done hunting or shooting. And I never used a bow stringer to do so, either strung by between the legs or against the instep of the boot. But these new long bows and recurves are a much superior material, and I leave my trad bow strung as long as I will be shooting every day or two. But it bugs the crap out of me to do so and old habits hard to break.

Question, do you leave your trad bow strung, or unstring it after use??? And why??

As a followup, at one time, it was suggested to back off the bolts on compound bows in off season which I used to do. No longer. So do you back off tension on your compound, or just leave as is??

I always unstring mine. Use the stringer. I have been told by much more knowledgeable folks that modern trad bows will not be affected by leaving them strung but I figure it can't hurt and it only takes about 10 seconds. I don't like the stringing between the legs, seen the result of a limb slipping and almost putting out an eye, plus I've been told it can lead to limb twist. I have strung longbows on the instep of my shoe but even that can be bad if something slips.

Never backed out the bolts on my compound though.

Because I only shoot my Red Wing Hunter once in a blue moon, I keep it unstrung. My E35 stays the way I got it, ready to shoot.

I've had bows strung for years at a time with no adverse affect. I almost never unstring a bow during season.

I think a lot of that line of thought stemmed from string stretch as much as anything. Today's string materials are so much better in that regard that once they are completely stretched and shot in you get little change. I never back off my compound and the recurve stays strung from pre season shooting until the season ends.

I unstring my longbows and selfbows right after I am done with them for the day.

Black Widow recurves stay strung indefinitely...

I will leave my fiberglass bows strung for a couple of days if I am shooting them. I unstring my selfbow as soon as I am done shooting it. I always string the bow using the inside of my foot.
