name is STAN alias BUBBA MAN- originally from N.Y. - never had a hunting license - i`m a viet nam vet so i did hunt at one time in my life - but not the 4 legged version - next year i would like to go deer hunting - i am blind to the whole thing do i need to take a course and if so who do i contact - i just bought a remington 30-06 - but they tell me where i live i have to be in a tree stand - then i heard some counties you can use the rifle on ground so i`m a little puzzled hope some one can clear it up a little THANKS

Welcome! I'm not familiar with N.C. but if you plan to hunt there you need to read the current hunting regs anyway. A Remington 30-06 is deadly on whitetails. Good luck.
 
Welcome to the forum ! We all had to start somewhere, you're just starting a little later :)

My advice on shortening the learning curve: If you have good friends that hunt, ask for help. Failing that, subscribe to a couple of magazines that deal with deer hunting. Deer and Deer Hunting would be one I'd recommend. North American Whitetail might be something you're interested in also. Newbies can still benefit from the how-to articles in these mags. I'm sure as you learn, you'll have questions. Most of them can be answered here by folks that don't mind helping. Good luck Sir !
 
thanks for all the replys i just really wanted to know if i had to take that safty course - went thru an 8 hr. class to get my c.c. - oh well if i gotta take so be it -
