Habitat / Outdoor Working Clothes

A random topic, that I don't believe I have seen discussed here. I know most of us have done / still do the jeans and t-shirt thing. However, with the summer heat, I've got to believe there is better "gear" out there. I've invested in my hunting gear, and now I'd like to invest in some "work" / habitat gear. So, for those of you who have done this, any recommendations or things to stay away from? Winter seems much easier as I can throw on merino's and carhart and be just fine. Summer is what I'm more curious on.

Good thread. I wear the Magellan $12.99 dry fit tee shirts from Academy nearly all summer. Pants I don’t have a great solution. Lately, Duluth Trading fire hose pants. They’re pretty hot.

Running shorts, no shirt, sandals or old running shoes. If I have to run a saw or be in the woods I use some heavy duty pants that have been permithrin soaked.

Also a sweat wicking shirt sprayed with permethrin. Everything is soaked with sweat when I’m done

I’m pretty simple: wrangler cargo pants (ripstop) and the cheapest long sleeve shirts I can find (I have to keep the son off of my arms). I used to wear fishing shirts which are very cool, but got tired of trashing them (they are not cheap). Unless I need rubber boots, I’m wearing some 13 year old Miendl hikers. While not cheap, they are the most comfortable footwear I’ve ever worn.

My thong , Daisy dukes and a cut off wife beater t shirt. Neighbors leave me alone oddly but I stay cool.

You know the string goes in the back right?

If I know we will be in the woods, I wear a t-shirt, pants and snake boots treated in Sawyers(permethrin). If we will be cleaning up along the road, mowing, or just hanging out, I’ll wear a t-shirt, shorts, and some tennis shoes.

I believe I have these. Elastic waistband is fantastic. Much cooler than denim. Normally pair with a long-sleeve carhart lightweight shirt, agree with the need to protect from the sun. I apply sunscreen liberally to my ears, neck, hands and nose. I’ve seen too many old gomers walk in with chunks of their ear or nose missing after having a squamous cell removed. Too much sun exposure is on par with smoking at this point: there is no excuse for ignorance anymore, we KNOW they cause problems in the long term.

I was looking at those. I'm also looking at these right now...https://www.carhartt.com/products/c...80fb007b0a1c0e0d&c3ch=Affiliate&c3nid=VigLink

The lightweight long sleeve shirts usually aren't an issue. I've also been looking into some of the First Lite Merino tee's.

I've found the long sleeve "fishing" shirts or "Salt Life" shirts pretty cheap at the end of summer. I found some at Academy last year. Looking pretty rough now but I only wear them when I'm going to abuse them....and when I go to Walmart..you know , so I fit in.

I've found these to be my go to. They are elimitk pants, i can't vouch for them enough..... days i wear jeans in summer i'm picking ticks off left and right and days i wear these i'll be lucky to have 1 tick the entire day, its some voodoo pants no joke. They are little more expensive, but you work long enough in woods and eventually some tick is going to bury its head, do all i can to avoid all the nasty diseases they bring with.

They are light weight and breathe extremely well, fabric may not last as long as jeans, but if keeps the creepy crawlys off of me that's worth it to me.

Growing up it was shorts n no shirt in the summer. Then it went to pants n t-shirt and cap. These days it's any kind of pants, long sleeve shirt and wide-brim hat. I've had many pre-cancerous spots frozen off the past few years and my first minor surgery about 6 weeks ago that was a little more than pre-cancerous. Even wear thin micro-fiber gloves now when mowing at the farm these days. Doc told me to use sun screen while driving.

My go to for outdoor work in summer is a t-shirt and old BDU woodland military pants and leather boots...I need lots of pockets and free fitting clothing...

You guys got me thinking, I’ve always worn jeans in the summer when working outside. I’m a sunscreen nut too; if they find out that stuff causes cancer one day, I’ll be in worse shape than the beach bums! I hate sweating in jeans; but I’ve never really thought about alternatives, which is dumb considering I have all kinds of wicking material in my hunting clothes.
I found a pair of work pants on eBay that are supposed to be quick drying. It looks to be made of the same material as the more expensive pants. I’ll let you guys know how they hold up. You can bet they will be permethrin treated soon after arriving!
