Geo in Co

Something tells me that we aren't going to be neighbors anytime soon. Such a shame - I loved the wallpaper in the bedroom and my wife like the wrought iron at the top of the stairs. Neither of us were that big on the toilet being upside down in the bathtub, but we are trying to be more open mined...…;)

Seriously G, I'm sorry it didn't work out, but it was much as I expected. Where do you go from here? Are you going to stay put in CO or are you considering something else now?

PS: I wish you could have come by my place, but I understand why you were in such a hurry to get back.

Man am I behind on things. Geo almost moved back east and I had no idea. A younger Geo would have taken on that wishing well and fine tractor. But a wiser Geo will find a better Tanks Holler

Wow, I'll stay on this side of the Gyandotte river , thank you. Knew it couldn't be going too good with no contact. I started tell you don't waste your time, but one just never knows, I guess there are deals to be had. Glad you had a safe trip at least.

wow - this brings back some bad memories when we started looking for a place. Not sure if we came across something that rough but pretty darn close!

I was looking forward to GEO in Appalachia thread!

I wouldn't be surprised if I were back in KY walking properties during the cold months ahead. It would be a shame after just about ruining my right hand not to get to burn up my stack of wood here in CO. Northern KY would be close enough to do split time in Michigan. I'm destined to stop by for a visit.

Oh I could have fecal matter hole hollow cleaned out in a winter or two.

Sorry for running out on you guys the way I did and It's kind of my way, somethings I just need to see for myself. The realtor could have been a bit more honest in his write up and on the phone especially knowing that I was driving from CO.

I like those forests and big bucks, I'll kiss a few frogs.

While the drive in may look idyllic in the photos it actually snakes over 5-6' plastic culverts 3-5 times. The first creek crossing coming in is over a concrete culvert with a sharp right in and a sharp left out. Not a problem for a pickup but a cement truck or a well derrick probably a problem. I also saw what a 6" rain can do an intermittent stream bed in Iowa. Native questioned the properties accessibility prior. Other properties in the area of raw, rough forest with better access and power supply are listed in the $750- $850/acre range. The property that I looked at had a $300/acre premium with the "authentic rustic", "occupied log cabin".

Lewis County is some rough terrain. I spent a while looking around those parts before I bought my last place.

Where did you end up?

A week later I still have misty mountains on the mind.

There is actually more than just rocks for soil up the top.

Sorry was referring to my last farm in Central VA. I haven't bought another one...yet. Everything is too far away for me to escape the dogs....

Oh, congratulations on the new born, I hope that all is well.

Thanks George! He's doing well after a brief scare that sent us to the Richmond NICU for fear of a lower intestine blockage. Turns out he was fine (can't wait for that bill...). We are still trying to get used to the little one being around and SOOO noisy..We'll see how much hunting I can manage to do this year....

George...You've got brethren out that way. Brooks left Saturday morning for his annual trek out west. By last night he'd packed in to his favorite place on earth. I'll be following his progress for the next 7 days or so as he checks in each night with his location. It's been 2 years since he tagged out on a bull. Hoping he gets an up close and personal encounter this year.

Treat your clothes with permithin before your next foray into the brush. The stuff really works for ticks, chiggers, etc.

Thanks OldOak, as a survivor of the Iowa chigger wars of the 21st century I knew the mistake that I was making when I stepped out of my vehicle in ky. My protocol in Iowa was skin so soft on my skin, deet on socks, boots and outer clothes tucked, treated with permethrin.

I sent you a PM with a link to a property that looks good. It’s an online auction.

Thanks Native.

One last trip up to the Make It Or Break It hole.

DSC00177 (1200 x 900).jpg
While I fished the M I O B I hole, Tank fished the hole above. After Tank was done with the hole I caught the biggest fish of the day there, a 8" bow.

On the return I lost my fly up in a spruce at the M I O B I hole so we packed it up. I left rather sad as If I were saying good buy to a loved one for the last time.

I have got some work to get done in the shop then I'm heading back to Kentucky to make an offer on one of two 160 acre parcels, the Sh*t Hole being one of them. I really like the way the ridges line up on that parcel. The realtor from KY called me yesterday morning to see if I ever looked at the property and to tell me that he showed the property twice last week to hunters one from Florida and the other from northern Ohio. The other 160, my contact said that the owner originally wanted $1000/acre now he is asking 400K. Depending on the conditions of the buildings I may float him a market value offer closer to 200K. There is more open area in the bottom for about 6-8 acres of foodplots on that parcel.
