Foodplotting In The Mountains...The Sequel

all very nice - is there a pond where the cattails grow or just a wet spot?
No I've let that creek bed just grow up and become a sea of muck. I will spray the cattails to control or else they will take over everything. I've got a small pond just to my back in that pic and another small cattle pond on property. I've dug a couple water holes, but get very little use with them with 3 creeks running the property.

Looking great as usual. I’m headed for my hills this Friday. Can’t wait!

Are you putting 150# of cereal grains per acre? Might need to up my order.

No actually I only put 50#/ac anymore. I used to use 100. Gets too thick for following summers rotation throw and mow. I actually usually mix WR, and WW but feed store was out of WW till Wednesday, and I didn't want to wait. Did get some decent storms to set the seed last few days, so should be good. This has been one of the wettest summers thruout since owning the place. Road pretty tore up from wash out.

Well was supposed be at an outdoor Zac Brown concert tonight in Charlotte but we know how that worked out w Florence.
So headed north for some more quality time w you know who before season kicks in few wks and I go MIA.
Been staying practiced w bow 20-30 yds and shoulder doing decent. I’m happy.

My chimney plot seems to be doing well and I’m excited for many of you to come hunt it with me opening day. Fridge is stocked

Geo got me 6 if these delivered and except for one for myself and another for son, they will go to buddies for Christmas. Geo will then be famous thruout the East. By far the only knife I’ve ever gotten that I didn’t need to sharpen more. He did an awesome job and the case I love. Thanks friend.

Did see few deer. Have you ever gave thot as to why deer love golf courses? There are reasons and you can apply to your plotting.

And as usual rain. Been a wet year and w Florence rolling in it seems to continue. Hopefully all you guys as well as my family and friends in its path stay safe. Nature seldom acknowledges limits man thinks he places on her. Peace and stay safe.

Love me some Zac Brown chicken fried toes in the water
So I thought we were supposed to NOT make our plots look like Augusta. Now I have to go and change everything

Change is good young man. Never stay static.

Not a drop here in okieville for a couple weeks where high pressure systems are the norm...have a small chance in 7 days...

Your chimney plot wouldn't last five minutes here.

G
Yea I think the only reason it survives is each evening they are eating my flowers and shrubs against the house. Dog and deer just look at each other. Always have a few nice 8s and 10s but they have free reign here at house.

Man hate that. Dry weather sure is rough on plantings but mowing grass twice a wk got old long ago for me. But I won't complain this year unless it begins to be nonstop snow.
If I kill a deer in the chimney plot will you clean it for me with a Geo knife?
I certainly will my friend. I usually do most for those I hunt with anyway since I'm so impatient and can do one in just a minute or so as opposed to them acting like they are doing an autopsy. No butchering, I don't do anymore. Too cheap and gets wrapped and frozen at the nearby butcher.

Cause no one sneaks around trying to kill them there?? :D
Well you might have to rethink that. My nephew is the head golf pro at a large city country club. One day as he and his co worker stood looking out of window of clubhouse observing a nice 10 pt browsing clover on the first tee box, a small car stopped along road, 2 dudes hopped out, shot said buck, ran down and threw it in trunk of car and drove off. My nephew said they just stood there dumbfounded almost not believing what they had just seen. He called me telling me the story knowing I'd get a kick out of it.

Unfortunately, that scenario sounds a lot like what happens in some 'food plots' too. Many parallels to food plots and golf courses.

For several seasons I hunted on a property just down the road from the Valhalla Golf Club. If the hunting there was at all correlated to proximity to a golf course, then I definitely need to invest in a greens mower. ;)

You may have a point.
Actually both those courses showing those deer have controlled hunts. My buddy did one and he had popup blind on the 10th fairway. Said it was a strange feeling hint but he did score a buck and doe. Here’s albino we also saw.

On side note did make it to Farm for few hours to ck treestands final inspection of no downed trees from storms. Remnants of Florence kept us wet and I never had chance to take pics of plots but brassica and perennials doing well. I’ll try get some season opener in 2 wks.
Got my computer going but learning curve on new Windows is driving me crazy. New pics on bears and bucks. I’ll get them on here.
Meanwhile it’s never too early to recruit help on Farm. Great time w my son and this cracker. So many questions on my plot and tree plantings for such a youngster. Loved it. I’ll get some deer pics up soon hopefully. Good luck to all.

Love pic of your new tractor driver. My son and his family were on a weekend trip recently. They forgot bedtime books for their 3 yr old. They did videos instead. Andrew's choice = poppa tractor video
