Farm and Ranch life

I think Rusty checked into the hospital so they could monitor his heart after smacking that buck !:D:D:D They’re probably still trying to slow it down.....:)

What’s going on in your neck of the woods these days, Baker?
I've been going out practically every day trying to video the bucks on the farm. Got some great video but it has been tough slogging. Have been looking for months to find the big nontypical I had in the summer velvet video. No joy.We have taken 8 bucks and 13 does . Buddies wife got her first buck and my high school nephew got a 150 class 8 pt. I hope to put a video together before heading south for the winter. Couple pics of happy hunters

Man I like this time of year!!!

Nice video! I first thought 18 minutes was going to be long... but once I started to watch I realized it wasn't going to be long enough. Just can't get enough of those awesome deer. I like that you ended it with your hunt/harvest for this season.

Another very good video. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. You mention maintaining a population control. Could you make a video explaining how you go about determining the population? And what parameters you try to adjust to. I know you have explained about the high fence but how do the deer not over populate the range? There must be a process you go through on a continuous basis.

Great question and idea. I'll get into population management after the hunting season.

I just got around to watching this video, that thing called hunting got in the way. Rusty, you have some marvelous bucks ! The never ending uniqueness of deer antlers is amazing to me. One great buck after another and all of them special in their own way. You are definitely doing something right !

Finally found time to watch this video just before the Dawgs scrap with your Tigers. Great video! Mature, whitetails are such awesome and beautiful animals. So rare to see such an age class as you have at your farm. Thx for sharing! GO DAWGS!!!

P.S. - Bout time you put a pony tail in that hair. Just don't go the man bun route!

Lots to respond to in this post.
First, glad you liked the video. After the season is over I will take the time to put together more footage of everything taken during season. For now,I'm back to the ranch now which is an amazing target rich environment.
Second, hopefully we can still be friends post game as LSU keeps moving towards a championship ?
Third, mature whitetail bucks are amazing to watch and live with. Very special to watch how their behavior changes as they age and how the entire herd behavior evolves as age structure with both bucks and does becomes more balanced with a majority fully mature.
Fourth, Yep, I'm working on a pony tail. For the first time in over 40 years I am completely out of the business world: no operating responsibility, no board seats, no equity investments requiring involvement in any private ventures. Nothing. Feels wonderful freeing up a lot of mental space to focus on other things. Damn the bankers! Tuck my hair back and head back to ranch to try and get some more video of a giant drop tine buck I saw Sunday at dark. Who knows what happens after that?

GEAUX TIGERS

Simply stated...We took an old fashioned ass-whoopin' Saturday. Hat's off to LSU!

Looking forward to "that time in my life" as well. Still swinging the bat as hard as I can on the work front and still enjoying it. In NYC today doing just what you described in your former life. Looking out my window at 1000's of people and cars going and coming in Times Square and thinking bout the 10 or 12 trucks that might pass by my farm on the dirt road all day today. Quite a contrast. One day...
