I'm required by my human nature to be happy for you guys but I'm sure am envious. Seriously glad you guys finally got some rain hopefully soon enough. We had another dry sunrise with above avg temps. I don't worry about my plots so much as leaf fall is on and forest fire season will not be pretty. 300 ac of hardwood within 30 ft of my house and 80% hardwood at my farm. Lots of good tinder for a fire. 60+ days now. Last yr went about 80 days during this same time. Saves mowing grass. Luckily chance of rain next week.

Fire is always a concern, hopefully you'll get some relief soon.
Had to giggle a bit...full disclosure, have been guilty of rain envy myself...recently.

I feel for you brother ! In 2011, we had a bad drought here in E Texas. Before it broke there were fires almost daily in close proximity to my house and 80 acres, and also my 217 acre place about an hour away. Once I was driving around the perimeter of the 217 just checking things and spotted a fire starting about 4/500 yards from my line. Lucky for me that I decided to be there at that time. Firefighters soon had it out. I can't figure how it started in a clear cut with no roads unless the sun shining through a bottle caused it. Wildfires are scary for sure. I hope everyone gets some rain soon !

We have some Pyros in this state that love dry seasons and certainly don't want any of that. Late 80s part of season was closed from fires. Smoke was so bad state wide and across the NE that deer moved very little except after dark.
Now here is an oxymoron for thought. Like monsoon weather, drought also has its purpose on the landscape. We think as humans on our timeline but nature can have different motive. Some plants, and even actions within the soil are dependant on dry periods. The loss of wildfire for the most part since early 1900s has contributed to reduction in the White oak forests of the eastern half of the US. This lack which helps promote white oak establishment has allowed a transition of eastern forests to other hard mast trees and more improtantly to shade tolerant, non mast producing trees which have become predominate.
So maybe nature know what I don't. But regardless am looking forward to rain next week. I am selfish of my needs. And am happy some are getting much needed rains.
We ended up with right at 2" on the hollow...1.5" at Home 10...
We have not had measurable precip since the end of August. I planted everything twice last year and some of it three times. Not doing that this year. Everything is sitting ready for seed. I wont plant until we have had a decent rain and another in the forecast. It might be December.

Might be time to share some of your rain with me ! Where I hunt in Trinity Co., we've not got the recent rains that we have at home. Worst part of that scenario is there was enough moisture for the crops to germinate. If we don't get some soon, I'm afraid the plots are gonna wilt. I don't wish anyone a hurricane, especially the areas that haven't even recovered yet, but I am wishing for a good soaker.

Just checked our plots. All are dry as a bone. The only one showing signs of life is at the bottom of a drainage basin.

That is why I am going to wait until after we have had a rain with another in the forecast. That way, there will at least be some existing soil moisture - plus the dirt might work a little better. Also, the later it gets in the fall, the cooler it is and less likely tender, young plants will burn up.
