Elk Hunt Outfitter Question

I have a long-held goal of a backcountry elk hunt that will be realized next year. I am trying to do some research on outfitters. I'm leaning toward the Frank Church Wilderness area in ID, but would be open to other areas. I'd really like to hear from anyone who has had a great first-hand experience with a guide/outfitter. Thank you for any recommendations you can offer.

Bow or gun,one place to start may be to look at the outfitter reports on bowsite.com another place that Grant Woods used this year is called Hosted Hunts and they set up whatever type of hunt you are looking for.I would at least apply for ML in NM or bow if using an outfitter.I have used Compass west in NM

I have been going to Colorado for the last three years bow hunting the opening week of the season. I would recommend going to NW Colorado some where within 40 miles of Meeker. Colorado has the largest population of elk and the White River herd (near Meeker) is the largest elk herd in the world. If you can afford to hunt private land you will well ahead of the game. My five days elk hunting has almost ruined my desire to deer hunt at home. It is absolutely incredible and I plan to continue to go every year that I am able. I do not have a recommendation for an outfitter but I believe it would be hard to beat the area where I have mentioned. Keep asking around. Another good idea is to go to a RMEF banquet and talk to people there as that is the one place where more elk hunters will be in the same room than anywhere I know. Also, some of their auctioned hunts go for good prices during the banquet.
