Drought and Survival

About half way through planting plots today. Talk about miserable. It’s a dust bowl. It might be the first time I’ve ever planted with no expectation of success whatsoever. :(

Plant on brother ! I planted in dust and I have wheat poking through after only two half inch rains in the last month or more. Plant it and they will come !

My weather app is stubbornly forecasting rain for Monday. The chance has gone up every day. Now saying 100% of significant rain. Not one other weather site is calling for it though. I sure hope the app fellas are right!!
Got all but one small plot finished, I’ll do the last Saturday morning. Then it’s time to hunt!

Yes The Weather Channel is showing 100% for Monday. The wheat and Rye that I did have sprout after planting 2 months ago couldn’t take the dry and it sprouted, got to the 3 leaf stage and then died. I threw another 50 lbs of wheat I had out yesterday just because but I have no expectations of it. Muzzleloader starts tomorrow and I have never had less expectations than this year. Haven’t had a buck picture since the wounded buck disappeared and the neighbors are really taking a toll early morning and late evening...hot and 30 mph winds forecast for the weekend and only getting down to about 70 Saturday night.

Are your neighbors poaching the deer or shooting them legally?
Looks like you’re forecasted to get over twice the amount of rain as us. I hope we all get a good soaking, but we’ll see, my drought jadedness is showing once again.

Poachers but here you almost have to catch them yourself on video and turn it in to get anything at all done…

Nice big rain has been a major disappointment so far, but hey what’s new? Down to a forecasted 3/4” now…. Might help the food plots a little, but will do jack for the pastures and ponds. Rancher/farmer tears are bigger than the rain drops.

It’s a really “dry” rain down this way...I can see the drops but working outside won’t even get you damp...weird...

Same here Okie, this isn’t real rain. It seems to be getting swallowed before it even hits the ground.

I just can’t quite figure how central MO is again forecasted to get big rain, the system is mainly SW of us right now and has to go through us to get to central MO, so why isn’t it raining like that on us???? My brother-in-law will be telling us how many inches they’re getting in Bolivar again soon I’m guessing.

While driving into the office it became apparent this is going to be one of those feast or famine systems. Within 3 miles of the house it was obvious much more rain has fallen. I was hoping for something much more widespread. Still some more to come it looks like so we’ll see what happens. If the radar isn’t lying, it looks like Catscratch has been getting a good rain a ways west of us.

It has been “raining” since before daylight and our road is still dusty...dry rain...

As I watch it not rain yet again, a few questions come to mind as someone who is living in a desert. Why the crap do I get my hopes up for rain anymore? Why do I listen to idiotic meteorologists, who have no accountability whatsoever when it comes to their joke of an occupation? Why do I continue to visit this website and see beautiful places in the country where ponds are full, creeks are running, and wildlife are thriving? All of this makes my stomach hurt; if I were a farmer/rancher I would having bleeding ulcers by now. Ladies and gentlemen, it appears the streak is still alive, 140 days without significant rainfall. 15/100s at the farm…

Just got confirmation, it’s pouring back home AND at the farm. First real rain coming down since June!!!!!! Won’t take all the local pain away, but it will help. Maybe the skies will finally begin to open the next couple months.

It hasn’t poured here but a fairly gentle rain the past couple hours. I hope it will pour but the radar model isn’t showing it. I went and fed the cows, rolled out hay and the rain was just steady...slow soaker type...

I’m glad y’all are finally getting some rain. We three have been hollering like tree frogs for the last couple months !:D We should get ours later tonight, so don’t use it all up before it gets to us !

i hope my place is getting some of the rain, hasn't yet that i can see on radar and my uncle hasn't responded to text yet. I was watching the radar and seeing the yellow dissipate between the state lines and Hwy 65 (we are east of 65 by about 10-15 miles). Hoping yall get good rain and we do as well.

We ended up with right at an inch at the farm, I’d forgotten how much rain has to fall to get an inch. It won’t stop the bleeding at all, but it will help the plots I guess I can say selfishly.
