Drought and Survival

My brother-in-law lives in Bolivar. It was tough all summer listening to his reports of rain after rain after rain, etc…
Bolivar got good rain yesterday. Seems like it always tracks North of I-44. We are actually getting rain right now. Not sure how much it'll be though.

It missed us as well...again...maddening to hear the thunderstorm just 4 miles north of you while the sun is shining and the dust is blowing around...
Hang in there Okie, it's gotta rain sometime, right? I mean REAL rain. I told the church I would video myself in the mud doing my best snow angel impression, when we get some actual mud, and I'd video it and show it on Sunday. That will get them praying!!:D

Oh, I know it’s gotta rain and that’s what keeps us trying against the odds…I did a little video about it today…

I hope I don’t jinx myself, but we got a half inch early this morning at home, but very little at the lease, probably a tenth or so. It was enough that I hand planted my clover plot this morning. All this hinges on the weekend forecast though. We have a decent forecast for Sunday and Monday and as that’s only a few days out I have about 50% faith in it. :) If we can get an inch or so then, we are off to the races !

Today makes 128 days without significant rainfall. We’ve had 1.95” at our property since June 7th. :(

This was us in 2018. Dry enough to clean out the pond without breaching the dam. Keep an eye on the positives. It WILL get better.

I have taken advantage of some of that for sure during this. I expect our back pond will be better than it ever has in my lifetime!

And my little food plot waterhole will as well!

I got 3/10” today at the house but won’t know until Friday the total for the farm.

I got 6/10” at the farm but it’s still dry where there isn’t any shade. With a 70% chance of rain this Saturday night, I went ahead and planted 5 pds of clover on a small one acre plot today hoping our chances don’t dwindle down to nothing.

Okie…I heard it takes 7” of rain to get out of an extreme drought. We are in a severe drought here but if we don’t get some good rain this weekend, I expect us to be in an extreme drought next week.

It’s certainly very disappointing...i am looking at the long range forecast and it doesn’t look like we will pull it off in October...hopefully November is better because my big concern is our house water well now...

If it takes 7" of rain to escape extreme drought, what about exceptional drought -- the most drastic on the scale? The thought is worrisome. We too are on well water Okie...
