Digital Pressure Cooker

After hearing from a couple of people at work rave about their digital pressure cooker I finally ordered one for myself. Folks telling me I will never use the crock pot again for stews, soups, chili, beans, etc. Buddy tells me from start to finish it takes 30 minutes to have a pot of pinto beans ready whereas it's an all day slow cook in the crock pot for me. Just curious if any of you guys have one of these and how do you like it. I'll be taking it to the farm next weekend and trying it out on a pot of pinto beans with pork added.

Triple C,

I read your post and two things happened - my mouth got to watering and I thought gives us some cornbread and it will be game on. ;)

Pintos with browned pork shoulder added, skillet cornbread, slaw and sweet tea on the menu for Feb 11th! Gotta figure the new pressure cooker out 1st.

Wife got one for Christmas! Fantastic! Potatoes and boiled eggs for potato salad in just a few minutes, then put in meaty ribs. Then while she makes the potato salad the ribs are done and we are eating. Last night was frozen chicken to eating in about 30. Good stuff

With the schedule my wife and I keep one of these is a must for us to get. Most evenings after work by the time I get a meal cooked we are eating at 8 PM or later some nights. This would cut my cook time down considerably.

Can't wait to try mine out. Can't remember the times late in the afternoon that I wished I'd put on a pot of beans in the morning. Apparently, no problem with these pressure cookers.

A couple of coworkers tell me what would take hours takes minutes with all the flavor sealed in.

My wife got one for Christmas as well. She really likes it. She made delicious BBQ ribs in no time and has made a couple deserts in it too.

That would be the biggest thing for me is the sealed in flavor. We are taught as young cooks that flavor takes time. I know just this past Thanksgiving I took a butt chewing from my mother because I didn't do my late grandmothers noodles correctly. I didn't realize there was an order to how the broth etc was supposed to be added and that the noodles had to be slowly added to the broth. For crying out loud never and I mean never add water to the broth to get that last inch you need to cover the noodles :(.

I am wondering how well one would do on an injected whole backstrap? This is a process that typically takes me a couple days on and off to do the way I like it between marinating and slow cooking like a prime rib.

The one my wife has is called Instant Pot. But when I google that I see several options. So not exactly sure which one

We've never used a digital one, but have been using them for cooking and canning for over 50 years. We have a huge one that will hold an 18 pound turkey. It took 1 hour to cook once up to heat. You will need to experiment a bit because different vegetables will cook differently in each cooker. Especially potatoes. Some cook nicely and others will turn to mush. Once you get the hang of it though you will love it. Greatest time saver in a kitchen.

Here is ours...

I bought mine off of Amazon. Bought the 10 qt size. Think brand was Elite. Did my 1st cook Saturday night at the farm. Put in pinto beans right out of the bag, added water and browned pork, (unit browns meat too), and set to 35 minutes. Came out just like I'd cooked em in a crock pot all day. Plus, clean up is a breeze. Lift the non-stick pot out and wash. Done. Think I'm gonna like this thing. Gonna do a pork roast next.

I bought a Instant Pot. Works great.
I did Red Beans/Polish Sausages, and Rice last night. Took about 45 minutes, but very tasty. Part of the extended time was browning the Sausage rounds and Onion...
