Concordia Oaks

Those trees look great. I remember hearing about Concordias a few years ago and that they were available from MDC. I was going to order some but I kept putting it off. Looks like I may have missed out. I hope they have them available again this year.

I was half expecting this thread to be old...

I purchased 20 of these Oaks 2.5 years ago from MDC, George O' White, 10 for my place and 10 for my Brother's.

Mine haven't grown but half of my Brother's did... My thought is, they need a ton of water. His that grew, 4ft in the first year, are in very rich and wet soil. The trees that haven't grown are drier ground with good drainage...

I have been anxiously waiting for MDC to have more for sale.

They may need a ton of water for optimal growth but they are in fact one of the most drought tolerant trees I have. I have some that were left on their own through the hot summer here in Texas and not only did they survive but managed to put on some new growth.

Agreed, mine leafed out also. Michigan had a longer drier Summer than usual. El Nino was really Epic this year. But next year I'm setting up rain barrels and a drip line to test my theory.

1 of mine turned yellow because it got to wet.Jist normal spring rains. It came around but didnt grow much this year. One on the other side of yard proubly gained 2-3 '

The other thing I read, which I'm going to try, Is that grass will compete with Oak saplings. Oak roots are shallow and need about one foot of grass free area around them.

Thanks for your suggestion on water. I will try several different soil saturation amounts and post results.

My best Concordia that's producing acorns now.

Same tree on 8-6-2009.....

I got two of the small acorns I got last year to grow but after 7 months they are still only 5" tall. Wouldnt mind trying my luck again this year especially if the acorns are bigger.

Letemgrow nice tree hope you have a bumper crop. Still looking for some of these. I got some acorns last fall but the weren't any good. Good luck guys

Hit me up early September, hopping to snag more of the acorns. One's in my grandparents yard, the other is a walk on my farm, but next to the DCO's so it's a two for one grab there.
