Bowhunting orgs (state and national)

Do you belong to your state bowhunting organization? do you belong to Pope and Young? Do you financially support the orgs that promote, defend and preserve the sport of bowhunting specially?

I belong to the Nation's oldest and largest state bowhunting org. (Wisconsin Bowhunters assoc), and Wisconsin Traditional archers, Wisconsin Bowhunting heritage foundation Museum, and Pope and Young and have belonged to Michigan Bowhunters Assoc. and the North American Bowhunting coalition and other bowhunting orgs and have provided both monetary support and personal effort (hours) towards these orgs.

How are you putting forth effort at the state and/or national level to advance the sport of hunting with a bow and arrow? If not, are you ok with others making the choices for you and advocating and advancing the future of bowhunting with what they think is the right direction?

I leave it to the Democrats. They want our guns not our bows. Seriously though, I am not part of any organization. I don't need someone to lobby on my behalf. I can harass the heck out of my local, state and federal representatives myself. It has been proven time and time again that very little of your money goes to habitat or actual conservation. All goes to the fat cats up top or the lobbyists. Furthermore I don't need Mr. Pope or Mrs. Young to tell me if my deer is good enough for them. I sure as heck don't need their cousins Boone and Crockett telling me the same.

This year has been a real eye opener to me. I am no longer interested in promoting a "healthy and viable" deer herd for everyone to reap the benefits of. This goes for turkeys as well. I am rearranging my property to hold more deer in its core. Only hunting the edges and only killing does that cross the property lines. I've also lowered my age to 3.5 years old as a benchmark. I'm not passing deer just to be killed by a neighbor who only think about deer 2 weeks before gun season. I'd much rather see that smile on a kids face or a friends than a neighbor.

FYI: I'm currently wired like a microwave on Nyquil and Basil Haydens trying to kick whatever I got before I leave for work tonight. My opinion may change as I come off my elixir.

That "Notable Bowhunter" retired from that board almost a decade ago but there are many more orgs than just that one that bowhunters can join to preserve, promote, protect and defend the sport of hunting with a bow and arrow..

I support my stance monetarily by buying my tag, my kids's tags, and their hunting licences every year. When State regulations are proposed that I am concerned about I email and contact my representatives. I also use my vote to in an effort to elect people who represent my beliefs.

I think as I whole our mindset as a society has shifted to where we need someone to do something for our behalf (politicians). When in reality they're the problem. I have no problem confronting any of my elected representatives on issues I hold deer to my heart. Like mentioned I support my cause with my vote, licenses, etc. I refuse to donate money to an organization where someone is making big bucks "looking after my rights".

None of the bowhunting orgs I belong to pay any of the staff. All are unpaid volunteer positions. The boards I sit on are unpaid to me. It actually costs me money to sit on a board.
