Archery, will it ever be the same again?

I never imagined that I would be saying this, but Pennsylvania seems to be heading in the right direction. If a guy by the name of Gary Ault wants to come to your state to mismanage your deer, lock all of your doors. It took 10 to 15 years, but now we are partially recovering from his failed policies.

Nailed it.

Gary Ault did wonders with the Bear program. So good they have him the Deer program.

Huge Mistake.

I was still in Pa then. It was a Slaughter of the deer herd. Almost lost the whole deal.

Can’t say his name around my brother, he’s not a cusser but he’s as close as he’ll ever get when talking about the damage Gary Ault did.

Whatever took a Pennsylvanian woodsman to sunny south Florida?

Economy was pitiful in our area. Jobs were hard to get and didn’t pay well.

Top that with my knees swelled up every winter and in May of 2000 they still were and I was tired of hurting.

Wife’s family had moved to Central Florida back in 1992 and she visited every year and love it there. I liked it as well.

Did some research on jobs and went down on vacation and applied at three places and was offered two jobs. I took the better paying one and two weeks later I was a Floridian.

That was August of 2000.

Luckily for managers, you can support high deer densities on relatively small tracts of land, provided you supply the deer with food, water and cover. Deer density in some areas may be relatively low (some areas in the arrowhead region of MN only support 3 deer/square mile) but good managed land for deer can hold populations much larger.

Granted there is a tradeoff there. As we settled that land, we pushed the caribou out and that allowed whitetails to move in. So pick your poison I suppose.

I agree 100%. Average density in my area is 20 dpsm. I have 60 deer using my 350 acres - not living there full time - but there consistently. Lots of food attracts them and holds them for longer periods. My deer are there in spite of state regulations.

One of my best friends is central PA and he winters in Fort Myers each year to escape weather. I like, as I crash with him for a week or 2 of golf and free board.
Main question for you Deadeye, do you do the Florida drift??

I shorted Apple now I need some bad news to hit the market. Maybe spreading this fake news "Archery is Dead" would do the trick?

I think he's talking about auto racing.
Could be.

I do the Drift when I let the Wind or Current take me along when catching some Florida Bass like these!

I didn’t till my PA buddy who winters there showed me. Dang 100 year old locals pull up to light but stop 20+ft back from car in front of them. As it gets near time for light to change they sloooowwwly begin to drift up to car in front of them. With traffic like it is in Ft Myers area, its a pain. Pay attention , I bet you just haven’t noticed it.
Of course those Keystone state guys are not the most patient drivers anyhow. ;)
