Any dove hunters?

110 boxes! That is amazing. I would choose that kind of hunt over just about any big game hunt in North America.

JFK, we don't usually save the whole bird, but we do save the hearts and gizzards. Excellent eating!

Guess what this is :) Is that Dove pot pie?

I went out just north of OKC thursday evening and me and another guy got 22 birds, then I went by myself friday evening and got 9 more. Sunday evening we went to this guys best spot on the same farm and the birds were thick but they were also well educated by that time and hard to kill, we ended up with 36 between 4 guys. Not near as good as 2 years ago.
If you have never been dove hunting all i can say is its one of the funnest and most exciting things your ever going to do. Like a live video game. And it's great because the more people you have with you the better the hunt is. You can yell back and forth to each other and watch the other guys shoot and miss or shoot and make a great shot, its alot of fun. We got several white wing dove on our last hunt, they are much bigger than mourning doves.

Sounds like you had some great success and lots of fun. I am still just sitting on 2 birds but when you only see 5 or 6 that isn't too bad...

I've got a couple of buddies that live in Edmond. One with a place on Grand, and an aunt with a place on Tenkiller. I wonder how close I've been to some of your guy's places? Seems like a lot of Oklahoma guys on here.

Educated birds are hard to hunt. I let them fly if no easy shot, they usually swing back by for a better shot if I don't sky bust them.

Well when you are around Tenkiller you are in the same county we live and do all of our hunting in...

Looks like you guys killed it on rain again and some of my okie brothers are getting it and Missouri was a complete ball of orange earlier this morning but we are still hanging tough without a drop of rain :(

Beautiful country down there. Never hunted the area but have caught some nice stringers of white bass in the upper Illinois and good crappie in the lake.
I proposed to my wife on one our trips to Tenkiller...

It's even prettier when it rains... I haven't fished in years and certainly miss it. Tenkiller is a nice lake...

8 lbs of dove? I'm afraid my dove would get a little freezer burnt before I got 8 lbs. Sure sounds good.

I have a place at Tenkiller right down the road from The Wolf Golf club. We just bought it, closing on it Sept. 23. I'm sure it will mess up my bow hunting this year, normally I take my daughter hunting on thursday evening then I go by myself on saturday. I think I'm going to miss a few saturday hunts this year, thats ok. After deer season i'm going to start crappie fishing.

Is that close to the damn? I've spent most of my time near Wildcat Point, but have been all over it. Congrats on the purchase by the way!
No, not 8lbs of dove... 8lbs of pie (that includes dove and the other stuff).

Thanks, my folks lived on the west side of the lake for 12 years and I just had to get back over there. Yes it is by the dam. If you go across the dam on hwy 100 to hwy 82 (it runs up the east side of the lake) then go 1/2 mile east on 100 you'll come to eastlake addition. The golf course is in there and I'll tell you they have a friday night steak night that is hard to beat. Best food on the lake, but dont tell no one, it's already hard enough to get a table.
By the way I like yall's burlap camo, looks good. Did you make them?

Alright, steak night is a secret with me. I won't tell anyone:)
Yes, the camo is homemade. The kids love it!

Interesting... our deer lease is right there called "Eastlake" part of Diamond H ranch...

Deer >>> dove > rabbit > squirrel > duck > turkey

Probably not a coincidence that the order I prefer these as table fare is the exact same as the hunting preference.

Tried sunflowers for the first time this year. About 1/3 an acre. My FIL tilled the area up with his 3 pt tiller. And then i used a hand/push planter to plant half, the rest was broadcast. Overall look good so far. These are peredovics so as i cant afford clearfields or beyond.

I'm 6'1, so a few of these did really well. The entire field isn't this impressive. I've been spraying the areas that didnt make with RU so they'll have bare dirt to land on.

Sunflowers starting to dry down a bit. Used regular peredovic seed as I couldn't budget the clearfields, so a lot of the field is weedy. I tried to spray the edges so sunflowers and weeds start to die and dry down. Only had 1/2 dozen doves using this small 1/3 acre field. We'll see what happens over the next month.

Looks great! I may have to try those sunflowers next yr, I've been planting black oil seeds. Lots of yrs (including this yr) we don't have many doves this early. Hopefully by the opener you'll have a good flock using it.
Thanks for the update.
