An all new idea about hinge cutting.

Looks like my luck.... Trees simply do their own thing sometimes....despite best precautions/plans.
 
Things sure can go wrong in a hurry when the old envelope is pushed. That picture should be on the cover of every tractor maintenance manual.
 
Wasn't hinge cutting, just poor felling practices. Wedge was too small, should have been a more open wedge.
And a narrower hinge may have helped as well. Really the tree did exactly what could be expected a percentage of the time with that cut and "high" pushover point.

Yeah.
Thats the value of plunge cutting. You can form the hinge without fear of the tree falling or setting back on the saw. Get the hinge correct, then cut the tab.

Absolutely Tap. It allows accurate, safer, perfect hinges cut almost to the precision one does in their wood working shop projects.
