All things Safety

My daughter and I are trying to get the boys setup with safety items needed for hunting. They have been in shooting houses for the most part but will venture to ladder stands and perhaps climbers soon. We have safety harnesses on the way for Christmas.
But I need to know best item to place around the tree. I kinda would like to place something semi-permanent (aka leave up during season) so they can just buckle their harness to it.
What do I need?

I’ve seen heavy duty type straps with the screw type links in them sold as aftermarket items. Take them down at the end of the season and they should last a few years. If I’m not mistaken I have a brand new one. I’ll look and see. Use lifelines for sure. I used to see three-packs for a little over $90. A bargain for saving a fall !

I looked in my archery drawer and all I found was a treestand ratchet strap. I probably gave that other strap to someone and forgot about it.

I like and use the following safety items
HSS tree strap with a prussic knot when using a climber.

Lifeline on all fixed stands like this HSS one.

I use the treestand wingman for all stands whether climber, hang on or ladder. IMO, the biggest issue outside of falling is self recovery. The wingman takes care of this and is reusable after a fall plus it can also be used as a pull up rope.

Hope this helps, really no reason today to be unsafe in the deer woods.

^^^^^ like said use the lifeline. Tied on from ground to tree. You can even position them so you don’t even have reconnect to another line when on stand even tho I usually do. I have them on all 14 of my stands now. After season can get HSS 3 pack for $30.
As for ladder stands no safer. I had buddy slip coming down off ladder stand last year in Missouri leg slipped thru rung. Compound fracture rod and 6 screws. Still having problems. Be safe. I’ve slid down a tree or 3 in my more stupid days.

I'll 2nd a lot of what has been said. Had lot of guys from work and friends that never thought it would happen to them and fell.

At every stand I have Lifeline to get up in the tree and the the HSS tree strap where when I get in I transfer my harness to the quick connect.

A couple of other things would be a bow hanger and a backpack hanger for every stand to get things out of the way. A screw in tree step works for the backpack. You can find a 3 pack of bow hangers for less than $20. Also, I like a haul strap instead of a rope. The wind up kind so it's out of the way too and don't tangle up.

After my heart attack while on a ladder stand, we came up with several ideas about safety issues. One of the best ones was small air horns. These are about an inch in diameter and about 4 inches long. Everybody in the woods carries one. Two blasts on the horn means you've hit a deer. One long continuous blast means you need help NOW!!!!. We had a young hunter slip while climbing a hill and when he fell, he impaled his leg on a old cedar snag. It was pretty bad. He was on the next ridge and without the horn he would have had to try to get to someone because he was too far way to hear him yell. We keep them in our coat pockets at all times while in the woods now. Also helps summon help with a deer.

Ouch! Never saw anything good come after the word "impaled".

Pretty dang good idea if there’s someone to hear you. I hunt alone a lot, but my wife and I have an app on our phones so that we know where each other is located in case of emergency. I guess if I get hurt badly enough she will know where to send the coroner ;) Hopefully I can access my phone and have the mental capacity to do so.
