Acorn Season 2018

Cap ironically I can't find a single acorn on any Blackjacks and everything else seems loaded. I'm just SW of your location and head further SW for several of my spots. Went to a local park today and the burs/overcups were drooping with nuts but not quite ready yet. Still pretty green. Squirrels are already hitting them hard though. I may have to get them while I can. The trees at our church are Pins and unknown Red Oak and they are already dropping big time.

Matt definitely interested in some Concordias. If I don't wind up with anything for trade I'll gladly pay for your trouble.

I gathered quite a few black walnuts today that are already falling and getting some strong sqirrel action. I have access to more of those than I can collect if anyone is interested in walnuts. I also have quite a few bois d'arc fruit (horse apple/hedge apple/Osage orange).

I'll be looking for SWO and Sawtooth. Another tree I need is Cottonwood if anyone has small seedlings or a ziplock bag of seed they happened to gather this summer. Other trees/seeds/nuts of interest are Serviceberry, Crabapple, Rusty Blackhaw Viburnum, PawPaw, Elderberry, and Persimmon.
Yeah the Blackjacks I saw with acorns are on my land outside of Kingfisher. Here in OKC they didn't make. Post oaks didn't either. The squirrels are eating pine cones. I'm going to check on the Sawtooth and Bur's tomorrow. This is going to be like last year, the mast crop is in low supply and a good food plot is going to be important to the deer unless your in an area with a lot of agriculture.

Last year in my area of NE OK near Kubota we had tons of acorns and they dropped early due to drought.

This year, haven't seen any fall from the recent storms.

Problem with "food plots" is they seem to like all the hay fields more than ag. So, this year is going to be easier, or harder for bow season depending on how you look at it.

I’m into another trade like last years, Cap’n, the coneflower beds are beckoning! I’ll be in touch after the holidays.

I checked the Sawtooths today one is absolutely loaded and the other 2 are in good shape as well.Of course they are still green now but I'll be checking them every week from here and we can do a trade again. Are these not the easiest germinating and aggressive growing trees you've seen? Really fun to work with .

We have several six year old sawtooths that are 15’ tall and have never produced an acorn. Maybe next year I suppose.

Love ‘em! They just flat out want to grow. I’m deadheading coneflowers later this week, I should have plenty.

I checked the STO yesterday and they are just starting to drop. The deer are getting to them quicker than I can but 90 % of them are still green. I just found 4 that the deer hadn't gotten to. I figure in a week or 2 there will be more than enough.
