A Welcome Sight when you are headed to plant chufa!

I know a lot of folks admire and promote diversity in the plots, but in these plots I only want the chufa. The patch at the bull pen had millet a few years back and produced quite a seed bank. It comes up every year, and is now competing with the chufa. What should I use to stunt the millet growth, or just let it grow alongside?>

Meanwhile, chufa at Mandy Hollow, planted the Saturday before memorial day is going wild

It would probably be wise to give a little chemical help to the first plot. Clethodim for grass competition, 2-4Db (not 2-4D) for broadleaf competition. I'll likely be doing the same once we get a dry enough break to actually be able to spray. I planted 2 large plots with chufa, one with pre-emergent and one without. From what I could tell the other day, the plot with pre-emergent still looked rather clean. I haven't seen the "control" plot, but can only imagine what I'm going to find after all of this rain!

Hey lak, how's the cufa
Coming along? The pre emerge has worked well in its first trial run. The control plot is really struggling with grass competition but, now that it has had a little time to dry out for a bit, is coming along strong and unimpeded on the PE sprayed plot

Really growing in this tropical weather, but weeds too in some areas. Chufa plants are huge, I will get a new picture tomorrow

No doubt my chufa is fighting many weeds and grasses, but with no spraying, holding its own. Since it seems that the plotter's hat causes the plots to look better I decided to try that with my chufa. Works great with boots too. Yes it is that tall.

I have been amazed at the growth, and while there is competition, the chufa has the upper hand

One area is battled some coffee weed, but the chufa is still strong underneath, and should do fine

Another field not doing as well, but still has some good plants

On the tractor with bushhog today and saw 12-15 turkeys in the chufa patch as I approached. I checked it out and, sure enough, they have begun to find some candy.
