6 x 6 shooting house

I'm not sure what cedar you have but my eastern red cedar logs that I put in the ground 5 years ago have rotted to the point that I can and have busted them off by pushing on them. Granted they are only 6 to 8 inches in diameter but even if they were bigger they would be unsafe in strong winds. They are in 24"of heavy clay and we average 30" rain a year.

Sorry I didn't see this sooner.

On another note, your blind looks great.

Your barn is covered. I got ground blinds made from spruce from 90s that at are covered.
No matter shape, we don't call them houses. Though our houses don't look like that.

Impressive blind.

I think am settling in on 4 feet deep, by around 5. 6 seems like you would be to far from windows.
I'm thinking about building a shooting house with locust tree poles.
I have a pole barn on property built in 1940 with locust poles in the ground that are as solid as ever.
I've heard cedar poles last a long time too but they are not common around here.

I have heard them called blinds among other things. The original poster put a great deal of effort into his shooting house and it looks great!

Bottom line is when any of us build one, we have the right to call it whatever we want to. Kerry's Shooting House is a nice elevated 6 feet square blind with the entrance door in the floor. It was build for my granddaughter and has a plaque inside it. The oldest grandson's shooting house got moved when loggers cut the farm and when they put it down two legs broke and it folded down - it was 14 years old.

I don't think anyone is busting his balls. I thought maybe it was regional term. If he made it up, then, maybe rib a little. You can call an orange an apple if your apple.

I enjoy building blinds, maybe more then hunting.. or maybe the joy of hunting drives me to build blinds. Dunno.

I also like the practice. I like building sheds, work benches, ect. Maybe one will turn out as planned.

I got 5x5 10 tower. 12 foot platform , with half walls, for bear hunting and nice weather, I am a wuss. This year 4x5 2 feet up.on skis.

Want to build more portable blinds. This winter thinking 4x5, so Wil fit in truck. Plus 4 deep seems good. Build with 4x4x10 corners. Want to chain to tractor bucket and carry out in woods.

My tower was built by raising walls, by myself, and it wrecked me.

What about windows?

My tower I did dados, and have horizontal and sliding plexiglass. Fairly quite. Even with 6 windows, got blind spots. Was thinking hole saw and just cover with plexiglass glass, or sawzall.

I have some 20 year old blinds like that, with glass that are noisey. Came with camp. Time, glass, loose? I ran a file through mine, and 4 years still good.

The one this year, I did 12" openings along two walls. Like view but not rain coming in. Did a quick plexiglass glass ad horizontal hinge on one. Sees good. Closed it down from 4 foot long to 18" fit the spot.
I wasn't happy with height. So took 2x4s and put plywood on ends to stack and change heighr. May do this on future builds, can adjust height in field. Could just toe nail, but the flanges work good, and 2x4s can be hair under for easy fit. Guy could Dado them. I did hinged plexiglass glass counter sinking for nuts.

Maybe should searched for general blind thread.

I am still looking for perfect blind, that I can cookie cutter and throw up all over. But also fun having them all different.

I came into some steal. DNR gonna crap when they see it

for the perfect hunting blind design. They're built by Amish guys and there are no blind spots. I've got several and made several imitators.

I like to build my own. Almost as much aa hunting. Not saying they come out perfect.

I think more than 4 sides is a gimmick, or waste of time and money.

I've got lots of metal. But don't like the tinging as it heats and cools. Ok up here for gun season, but early fall it's annoying. Ya it last forever.
I might tear it off a bear blind I used it on. Would be really bad in south, I would think.

berserker, I do my windows dado style as well but used synthetic decking that repurposed. They slide easily and are quiet. I have ones that are 7 years old that move like they did the first day. They are way cheaper to build this way than commercial and are the same thing.

I got some 20years old that are loud. But don't know how they cut cut them. Also I think real glass may be loud. Plexiglas glass or whatever seems better.

I have thought about oiling wood. I do try and clean grooves before season. But maybe should bring a file out.
