    no till drill question

Does your drill have the adjustable wavy coulters in front of the row? I usually set the depth wheels in the back in the 3rd set of holes and then adjust the coulters depth. There's a knob that you turn one way or the other to make them run shallower or deeper. Also planting any faster than...

    Alfalfa plots?

I've planted 4 alfalfa plots here in seks. The first 3 were planted in the spring of 2011 to Alfa rack plus. I worked up the ground and put lime on with a ezflow. Not sure how much lime and I've never soil tested. Planted very early like last week of March. The two largest plots lasted...

School me on JD corn planters

I've been farming with a 6 row 800 cyclo for about 5 years now. It does a good job on no till. Mine has coulter's in front of each row but I've been told they are not necessary to no till. Easy to work on. Easy to swap from one crop to another if you have the drums. Takes some time to get...

    Grain drill

I've planted wheat notill into standing beans with an international drill much like that one. They were an insurance claim years ago and the beans didn't yield well from a drought so just left them standing and planted wheat right through. Wheat came up great and combined it the next year. If...

What kind, and where to buy inexpencive field corn seed.

I've been planting conventional corn for AG and there are a few post emerge herbicides that will take care of the grass. A Sulfonylurea herbicide called Resolve worked good last year and kept the corn grass free. Used a lb of atrazine an acre with it. Also another herbicide called Impact...

    Micro woods plot success pics

The micro plots I've planted have been mostly white clover seeded with rye. Had a small 1/4 one that was in alfalfa for a couple years before it choked itself out from mowing and leaving the dead thatch on top. Going to seed some medium red clover in a new micro plot soon to see how it...

    Clover experts - educate me!

Have went away from my ladino plots after the ones on the thin soil burned up and died last summer. And it wasn't even that bad of a drought. Reseeded to a more drought tolerant variety of white clover and am anxious to see how well it grows and takes the dry weather. Also interested in front...

    "discing in" rye

Do you have a cultipacker? I sprayed, seeded, then cultipacked and have excellent growth with rye and clover i planted 2 weeks ago. Weve had good rains since planting though. Most of the seed was still laying on top of the dirt and would probably have failed if it germinated then turned off...

    Crop Oil and Brassica

I've always been told cleth needs crop oil to work but I ran it on my conventional ag beans this year with non ionic surfactant. I am happy with the grass kill but it wasn't perfect. Could've been my fault as some of the grass was getting very tall and making a seed head.

Food plots for the “dog days”

Alfalfa plots really shine during a dry summer. The ladino clover goes dormant here for anywhere from a couple weeks to a couple months during the hottest, dryest part of summer. Soybeans are always good in summer. I am looking at some different types of white clover that could be more...

    Imox vs Clethodim for clover?

I've been spraying ag crops for about 3 years and most of the time I include ams in the mix. I've left it out alot of times also and never could see that I got less of a kill. Always heard glyphosate benefits from AMS. Some water probably greatly benefits from having it in the tank but I...

whats a good drought/heat tolerant clover?

I've got 2 WI alfarack plots look great but they get bailed up once a year and the clover plots are in areas that can't be reached by bigger equipment. We've had some rain and one of the 2 clover plots still looks completely dead so not sure if the heat/dry weather didn'tfinish it off.

    Eagles in the ground, finally

Planted some Big fellow in rye a month ago and they seem to be lagging behind the other plots with ag beans. Not sure why but they just haven't taken off yet. Smallest plot of a half acre or so has been over browsed and beans aren't growing fast enough to compensate. Tilling the ground may...

Critique my food plot plans please!

i dont think the cattle will graze it down and cause it to winterkill. My clover and alfalfa plots have cattle wintered on them from jan-feb every year and they always come back strong.
