    2018 Hoosier state hunting regs

That's no big deal just raise fees for dummies like me who didn't buy a life time license. On another forum I visit any hint that our DNR is less than perfect would get instant flames. Dear sightings on our property have decreased by at least 60% over the last 10 years, due mainly to the...

    Building a bridge across creek

I have first hand knowledge of this. We replaced a rusted 36 inch culvert with a new plastic 48 incher going into our property and bedded it with crushed limestone and rip rapped the ends. we thought our problems were over. Our area has had 3 heavy rains, they were closer to flash floods this...

Stuff you have found on your property??

There is a well on our property at an old home site, it and a large bunch of Easter flowers is the only clue there was ever a house there. It used to hold water but has since dried up. I found a hammer head in the crotch of a fallen tree near where a friend said he and his dad found a moonshine...

    New deer rifle caliber?

That's cool, I've kinda developed a hankering for a 6.5 Creedmore. May need to check this out.

    New deer rifle caliber?

I should have checked the forum more often, I just bought my 2 sons a TC compass apiece. Both 308s $197 after rebate. It's passed now sorry. They're not the slickest bolt guns I've ever seen but accuracy is guaranteed and the price was right.

    New deer rifle caliber?

Hopefully you're aware of the big snafu in the Indiana hunting guide, contrary to what is printed in the guide, no center fire rifles this year on public land. Private land rules are the same as last year.

    Grunt call recommendation

I've used a knight & hale easy grunter plus for probably 20 years. Its plastic but does the job for me. Cheap and it works!

Forest Stewardship program through the NRCS

Just signed the contract yesterday, I've got some work ahead of me but it should all pay off in the long run. There is one requirement that I'm not pleased with that involves honeysuckle removal is the area that we call the safe zone. Hopefully once the honeysuckle is gone other native plants...

Forest Stewardship program through the NRCS

I hadn't heard from my NRCS agent for a few weeks so I gave him a call today. He said my application had been approved but the contract hadn't been sent yet. He looks for it to show up in a couple weeks. Hopefully it will have cooled of a bit by then and I can get to work.

    Alternative to Sawyer permethrin spray.

I think that ^^^^^^^ pretty much answers why you shouldn't use area sprays on clothing. Most critters don't have the life span of humans. Long term affects may never show up on an animal, who knows what might show up later in our lifetime.

    Alternative to Sawyer permethrin spray.

I can't remember which forum I read that on. I wish I could because there was several pages of discussion. The risk of contacting a tick born illness out weighs any possibility of harm from the permethrin. You just have to use the right concentrate. I'll see if I can find that forum, it may take...

    Alternative to Sawyer permethrin spray.

It's a fact that when dry permethrin is not harmful to humans. The oil based sprays don't dry as fast or as completely as the water based types. What the long term effects are I don't know, I do know it is a poison that you're not supposed to come in contact with when wet. I can't remember the...

    Alternative to Sawyer permethrin spray.

I don't want to stir up trouble but this stuff is not for use on your clothing. Do some research before using this it is oil based and doesn't dry like water based permethrin. It is an area spray. I use it on our camping spot and it works well for that. There was a lengthly discussion about this...

Saw my first fawn of the year yesterday

Little guy would have been missed if it hadn't stood to stretch it's legs. When it laid back down all I saw was the top of his ears. Tiny little booger couldn't have been more than a few days old.

    Turkey Hunting Thread!

Mama Threetoes ended her Indiana season last Sunday morning with a big jake. He came in after a couple hours of blind calling. She said she heard a hen calling. I told her it was a jake yelping "I don't want to shoot a jake I want a gobbler." she said. In just a few seconds he came around the...

    Turkey Hunting Thread!

Opening day of the Indiana season my wife and I had a few conversations with a couple gobblers but had no luck getting anything to come in. Day two I went back alone but when I stepped out of my truck I was greeted with rain and wind and quickly decided no respectable turkey or hunter would...

    Turkey Hunting Thread!

Listening to the whippoorwills and owls was a big part of the spring for me, sadly the whippoorwills are long gone from our area. At least we still have the owls.

Forest Stewardship program through the NRCS

Sorry I don't have a link, I think the IDNR sent me a email with the information about the program. I'm sure you can contact your local NRCS office. I called and asked the manager about it and he set up an appointment and was very helpful. He told me since it's a new program it's easier to get...
