2021 North Central Wisconsin “Lake Farm” - 35 acres on two lakes and surrounded by National Forest

Just a quick summary as we approach the end of September 2022 (Year 2). 1. Decent bucks are now showing up with some regularity after not seeing a single one in 2021. 2. Food is still a serious issue at my place. Seems our drought in northern WI has set them back and I really...

That tactacam takes great pictures. I use the Exodus cell cams and the pics are "eh" at best and that's after requesting the HD downloads for certain pictures, but the remote request for video or pictures is nice, but I'm really jealous of your quality.

2021 North Central Wisconsin “Lake Farm” - 35 acres on two lakes and surrounded by National Forest

It’s been a good month since I last posted. I think my chainsaws are still cooling down I dropped so many trees. I was working toward my goal of more sun on the ground. For those in northern regions you’ll probably be able to relate to these over crowded balsams who then lose all their lower...

    Bur Oak vs Asian Beetles

I seem to be having a problem with Asian Beetles eating my Bur oak leaves. Not like a lot of plants they decimate with swarms, but they are doing a number as single beetles.. Thoughts or preventatives any one has used. I've used Sevin in the past on other plants and feel as those beetles just...

    Tree Watering

I've got 22 of those plugged up buckets with the holes drilled in them for my fruit trees. I've hit each hole with a slightly larger drill bit and the problem has gotten better.

2021 North Central Wisconsin “Lake Farm” - 35 acres on two lakes and surrounded by National Forest

Bur Oak 3 feet out of the 5 foot tube. I would guess this fall it would be time to prune everything in the tube and let the growth go wild out of the tube? (Same oak posted above) All the other hybrids arent even 1/2 out of the tubes. This lone oak is a beast.

2021 North Central Wisconsin “Lake Farm” - 35 acres on two lakes and surrounded by National Forest

Hi Cutman, I broadcast using a hand spreader into my previous crop. Terminated and mowed that crop down on the seeds. Most of my plots are deep in the woods and carved out with chainsaws. Nothing more than 1/2 acre. I could never drill due to location and lack of equipment. Not ideal to what...

2021 North Central Wisconsin “Lake Farm” - 35 acres on two lakes and surrounded by National Forest

Saturday July 24 Miscanthus grew 18” this week and more stalks appeared from the planting. I think i received 100 ryzomes. Yes, my photos suck. Food plots (3) went in today. The 4th plot will be new and still needs work. I went with the vitalize carbon load for all 3 this year. Honestly...

    1st Year Crab apples

good points and I thnak you guys. Today my fall food plots go in. Good rain coming this afternoon and I won't be back to northern WI for 3 weeks. Unfortunately, I think the Crabs will have to wait a few weeks to get the window screen treatment. I'm not sure yet if we have a VOLE problem in...

2021 North Central Wisconsin “Lake Farm” - 35 acres on two lakes and surrounded by National Forest

I got a very late start to planting my trial run of miscanthus this year. Actually, I was just going to pitch the entire box into the fire because it was June 1st and like I mentioned earlier I way over bought- not cool, but a buddy talked me into just half assing it and see what we get rather...

    1st Year Crab apples

Hi forum friends - My 21 crab apples have done ABSOLUTELY fantastic since they were planted end of April/1st of May. Far exceeded my expectations for first year crabs in less than ideal soil in Northern WI. End of July is littl over a week away and my food plots will be going in like many in...

    Nut producing shrub

I appreciate the shrub suggestion. I'm just in year two of my habitat so I'm always looking for new trees/shrubs to add to my habitat. I googled this one and seems were talking about the American witchhazel? This one is interesting for me do the size and screening ability "American witchhazel...

2021 North Central Wisconsin “Lake Farm” - 35 acres on two lakes and surrounded by National Forest

This is the first of about 50 young oaks which i planted late last spring to poke out the top of their tube! This may be old hat for many of you, but this is a milestone for my property [emoji484] The bad news is Im not 100% sure of the exact variety. Shows as a bur oak, but i planted so many...
