    Tree Sourcing

Thank you, Native. I was hoping you’d chime in. I looked at Blue Hill, always sold out. I’ll. Try grabbing some of his Persimmons next year to tie into some food plots. My main goal is getting the hardwoods started out after the first burn this Spring. The hardwoods should be on a 3-5 year...

    Tree Sourcing

I lurk on here on and off, but plan to become more regular as our Farm is undergoing the “scalpel” so-to speak right now. We own a family farm of 64 acres in Central GA. Unfortunately our pines were decimated by beetles, and we are having most of the farm clear cut, aside from large oak trees...

    Whitetail Institue Powerplant

I’ve had limited results broadcasting soybeans or peas into standing crops. I’ve seen multiple videos of guys seeding and mowing or crimping rye over the soybean seed with good results. I may do a throw & mow or just drag if I get a wild hair. If we get a couple days of good rains I’ll just...

    Whitetail Institue Powerplant

So the 2023 WI Powerplant came in... 52% Hutchinson Soybean 23% Cowpea 11% Perdovik Sunflower 9% sunhemp I’m still waiting for Merit seeds blend and some rain to come back our way. Depending on how this goes, I may mix my own blend next year. Typically the weeds (crab, Johnsongrass...

    Whitetail Institue Powerplant

I considered a simplified sorghum, cowpea blend to reduce costs but figured I’d give the BOB guys a chance here. I don’t have a lot of time of money to invest here and my own mix with similar seeds was going to far surpass the costs for this one. The Eagle beans alone would’ve shot out the...

    Whitetail Institue Powerplant

Curious to see if anyone has tried either WI’s Powerplant blend or Merit Seeds “Buckdraw” blend. I’m going to broadcast 3 acres in these two mixes this Spring here in West Central GA Zone 8. I typically mix my own but because of some free shipping, this was the more financially suitable option...

    Speed up the "thickening"

“Land of the Free”..... If someone wants to burn on their own property, during the proper time frame and follows the rules, I don’t see how that’s an issue. Smoky the Bear killed more wildlife than all poachers combined.

    Official timber harvest/logging thread

Following. We have 61 acres in GA mixture of mature pines and hardwoods consisting of Popular, Walnut, Hickory and Oak. Pines and Hardwoods are ready for harvest.

    Drought and Survival

I planted plots last Thursday expecting to get 2-3” this weekend... Ian turned and that 2-3” rain forecast in reality became 0” We haven’t gotten a significant rain event in a month here in West GA. It’s an absolute struggle.

    Hurricane Ian Let-Down

Central GA here. Spread seed across all of my food plots in preparation for hurricane Ian’s rain. Checked the forecast this morning, 9% chance of rain now. Looks like I just wasted $400 for the birds. The joys of throw & mow!

    Fertilizer prices

That $12 soil test and a correct lime application will save you more money than waiting for prices to come down IMO

    Throw&Mow novice

You need to spray or else whatever you plant will just become a weedy mess.

    Throw&Mow novice

I’d definitely spray first and then either burn then seed OR seed then mow. I’d seed at 1.5-2x higher the seed rate to compensate for seed lost to poor contact. Pray for heavy rain within 1-3 days after seeding. Any more it’s probably a lost cause

    Seeding Rate Help

looking to do a “throw and mow” plot for roughly 2.5 acres of plots. West Central GA soil PH 5.7-6.2 range. Clay/Clay Loam. Not great but it’s what I’m working with. I’ve been spraying with 24DB/Cleth and .5-1Q per Acre of Glyphosate to kill off summer weeds. 3 different plots were in...

    No Mow May

I’m mowing trails and any grass infested sections of food plots to spray with Clethodim. Aside from that, I do agree let the animals have the woods

    Sending Sweetgums to Jesus

We ripped a hot fire through our Central GA farm late February this year. I wanted to wait until March/April but the Forestry boys said February and Dad wanted them to conduct the first burn for us. Sprayed an Imazypyr, 24D/Dicamba and Glyphosate with surfactant cocktail today. Hoping it sends...

    Deer Numbers

It seems most of our neighbors shoot bucks and not any does. None seem to “manage” their habitat or deer herd aside from the 2 larger land owners in close proximity to our property. I’ve run some QDM-ish ideas by some of them, but their interests lie elsewhere for now.

    Deer Numbers

I did run a 1 month long trail camera survey over 2 baited sites approximately .4-5 miles apart in late December/ early January of 2021. Truthfully I forgot the real number but it was in the 3-4 range of does per bucks. There was a point in time I remembered how many deer frequented the...

    Clover and chicory “test”

Totally depends on the source. Durana vs Ladino clover In turgrasses.. TifTuff or TifEagle vs Common Bermudagrass there’s profound differences. Some varieties are better for forage, drought resistance etc... You’ve got to do your due diligence though
