PH effect on Palatability of clover/chicory plot

Soil sample calls for 30# N , 45# K, and 2 tons lime . I was curious if I skipped lime and doubled fertilizer would the plot produce the same? And would deer eat it? Spreading 2000 lbs. of lime is getting to be a chore. Last lime application was 3 years ago and got ph up to 6.3. Not sure...

PH effect on Palatability of clover/chicory plot

My question is does ph affect palatability to deer for a clover/chicory plot. I understand correct ph increases nutrient uptake but does it affect flavor/desirability to deer? The plot is in extreme Southwest Mississippi and is 1/2 acre.

    clover/chicory question

Thanks for the replies. Plot is in Tylertown. Another rookie question: I disced then dragged to smooth 3 weeks ago with plan to spray glypho for any new weeds, throw clover/chicory seeds, then make one pass w/ my drag (chain fence w/ logs) to set at 1/4 inch planting depth...

    clover/chicory question

In south Mississippi and will plant Durana clover with six point chicory in 1/2 acre plot and have 3 questions: Does the chicory qualify as a cover crop for the clover or is an additional seed like oats recommended? Does 7 lbs clover and 3 lbs chicory sound right for 1/2 acre? What is better...

    butyrac in clover question

I have been spring fertilizing perennial Durana clover with 0-20-20 at 100 lbs acre but 0-20-20 is nowhere to be found. I can get 8-24-24. Will 8-24-24 at 100 lbs. acre hurt clover? Thanks in advance. I am in the deep south where the heat is coming soon .

    butyrac in clover question

Can I do throw n mow clover and chicory with imazethapyr? That is cut field, wait week, then spray imazethapyr and same day spread clover seed and chicory seed in the stubble, and fertilize. The clethodim kills the johnsongrass totally dead but three weeks later it is coming back/resprouting. I...

    butyrac in clover question

The right side of this pic was the throw n mow planted Sep. 19, 2020. I was very happy to see it filled in over the last 3 months to approx. %95 clover w/ just a few weedy areas. Hand raking the clumped up thatch piles, which were caused by rooting pigs, seemed to help the clover to fill in...

Now is the Time for Clover Plot Maintenance

Original post: "Clethodim, Butyrac 200, and several other herbicides are great for clover, but my weapon of choice right now is Imazethapyr 2sl, I was using an ATV with a 25 gallon sprayer on my smaller 1 acre plots, 48 oz of AMS, 16 oz of crop oil, and 4-6 oz of Imazethapyr 2sl per acre was the...

Now is the Time for Clover Plot Maintenance

Couple of rookie questions please: 1)Am I reading correct it is 25 gallons water per batch per acre? 2)The clover here starts growing good in late October, peaks in April, and keeps growing decent thru June. Right now its about 10 inches tall and very thick. If I were to spray now there...

    Buck w strange jewelry.

The deer's ear was slit longways in two also so I was thinking he got the ear and rump gash injury in a fight and the bullet was a separate incident? At the time I thought it was a through the belly shot that somehow he survived. That the gash could be caused by the bullet wasnt even on my...

    butyrac in clover question

Throw n mow follow up: left side of plot was throw n mow attempt #1, has %50 to maybe %60 coverage. I sprayed clethodim to kill grasses and the clover that is there is doing real good. I think the pigs rutting and piling up the thatch in very large piles was a big part of the failure rate...

Right side of plot doing great with huge rain boost from storms beta and delta. Without pig and turkey damage this side would be %100 covered. This was planted 9-23-19, first attempt perennial clover, and it made it through summer! Many sincere thanks to those on this site who helped with...
