O1 tool steel and Moose Antler

A friend from Maine (a Maliseet Indian) sent me a small moose antler and asked that I make a knife for a friend of ours, using the antler. I cut the handle from a section of the antler that provided a finger guard. Then picked a blade form that matched the handle. Then made an O1 steel...

So you want to be a real boy?

After viewing a lot of 100 year old guns it appears that most have wood that even though is walnut has a reddish hue to it. I don’t know if that was how it looked over 100 years ago or if that is how the shellac aged but I want to restore that reddish color so Im mixing red and brown stain...

So you want to be a real boy?

So you want to be a “Real Boy”?? That was the ad campaign and selling feature over 100 years ago for this unique firearm. In 1882 Clarence Hamilton, along with other investors, started the Plymouth Iron Windmill Company. Along with a friend, he started producing an all-metal rifle to be given...

Ven. smoked snack sticks with pepper and cheese

For these sausages I will use a mix of Hickory and Pecan chunks. After one hour of dry time I add the wood chunks to start smoking. Less in more when it comes to smoking sausage. You don’t want soot or ash so a little smoke is all that’s needed. Throughout the morning and afternoon I...

recycling a turkey and making it fly again

I don’t chop my feathers although that is a perfectly fine method to employ. I tend to burn my feathers either in advance of fletching using a simple clamp I made from office supplies and a red hot wire. Or I burn them after fletching (also using a hot wire) I like to dip and crest my...

recycling a turkey and making it fly again

I enjoy making my own arrows. Ive been making them for more than 35 years. While I enjoy compounds and recurves,, I also make my own longbows and my own broadheads to hunt with. Likewise I make my own cedar arrows. I took a few pictures of the last batch I am working on. This is not the ONLY way...

Archery, will it ever be the same again?

What you are seeing isnt a debate. Its non-bowhunters trying to assert that they are bowhunters. That is folly on their part. We hold these truths to be self evident.

Own your Own Whitetail land, but also go on guided, out of state hunts?

I bowhunt (I only really care to Bowhunting and find zero challenge or enjoyment or satisfaction in killing stuff with a gun) on my land and my leases and on public land and in many many states for things like whitetail deer, Hawaiian Vancouver bull, Hawaii pigs, Florida alligators, Water...

Archery, will it ever be the same again?

Who is the pioneer and forefather of crossbow hunting? What is the rich heritage and history of crossbow deer hunting in the USA? Manufactures of them saw a profit stream and lobbied to get them wedged into existing bowhunting seasons in states with weak bowhunting orgs. I think that is the long...

Archery, will it ever be the same again?

That would be Wisconsin and Roy Case. He was the first to get permission to hunt deer with a bow and it was Roy that got WI the first bowhunting season and license. http://www.archeryhalloffame.com/Case Roy.html

Archery, will it ever be the same again?

Thats why strong state bowhunting orgs and their members are essential. States without them had crossers lumped into what was a bowhunters season. non-bowhunting weapons like shoulder discharged, stored energy weapons with a stock, trigger guard and safety which can be shot from a rest or rail...
