    Early producing oaks?

Chip, I planted bur oak acorns and had some of those trees produce in 15 years. And that is without any protection or attention, just planted the acorns in the fall and let nature take it's course. I would expect with weed control, mulch & fertilizer that you could do a couple years better...

    Kiefer Pears in Northern Climate

BoneCrusher You might consider emailing Ryan at Blue Hill Nursery and asking him for his recommendation for late dropping pears for your hardiness zone. Apparently he is adding new trees to his inventory as they come to his attention, and he has been very quick to respond to the questions that...

    Kiefer Pears in Northern Climate

    OFFICIAL 2019 Nut/Seed exchange thread

I have English oak acorns picked from the trees this afternoon in Northern lower Michigan (Zone 4b). I believe that these trees are probably descendants of the famed English oak on the MSU campus. I would love to have a few Concordia oak acorns!

    BurGambel vs. BurEnglish Oak

Can anyone suggest a good way to differentiate between these two hybrid oak? I planted both varieties 11 years ago and one of them has acorns for the first time this fall, but the aluminum tag is gone. I've looked at my tagged trees for a match, but there is enough variability between...

Starting my oak savanna this spring, need advice

I have been wondering the same thing for my new Bur oak acorn planting. In my experience oak do not need as much room as apple trees, for example. So you are proposing a cage about 7 1/2" in diameter. I look forward to hearing what the experts think.

Starting my oak savanna this spring, need advice

Hi Chip, I am in N. Mich., too, and if I were you I would consider planting some Bur Oak. I love White and Red Oak and I have planted hundreds of each, and I do not think any of them produced acorns in less than 25 years. Many took 30+, and I am still waiting on others. I planted Bur Oak...
