    Trimming trees

Thank you. Posting on my phone it was difficult to find the right topic. The main tree where the nursery trims at an angle looks brown and dead. I clipped off about an inch with my shears and it was still brown and appeared dead but there are shoots coming out of that same trunk that are...

    Trimming trees

I pulled tree tubes off yesterday and a couple of my fruit trees looked strange. When I received my fruit trees, the main lead was already trimmed. That main lead is now dead it looks like. No green in the top couple inches of it at all. But it had many little shoots that are green and alive...

    Tree Stakes

When I plant a tree, I use a 5' tree tube, landscape fabric for weeds, and a t post to keep the tube steady on windy days. BUT, my t-post supply has dwindled. I read somewhere where guy ripped a 2X4 into 3rds and used those for his stakes. Anyone else have cheap suggestions? I bought some...

    Bur Oak question

I don't have any sawtooth's on my land. May have to add those in, huh? The bur's that I collect my acorns from produce every year and lots of them. Only problem is i'm growing them from seed, so patience is needed lol.

    Bur Oak question

No reason other than to add diversity. An acorn that's 3 times the size of anything they have ever eaten. I'm hoping to attract neighboring deer and hold them on my land. I had 4 deer over 180" going between my land and neighbors land. Mostly the neighbors land. I didn't have the food to keep...

    Bur Oak question

I like what you had to say. My land is littered with all kinds of oaks. Just not Bur Oaks. I want to change that. It’s a gamble for sure. But my oaks produce like crazy in certain years. Sent from my iPhone using Deer Hunter Forum

    Bur Oak question

I’m not planting them to feed for a long duration. Obviously the acorns won’t last long once they fall. I’m planting burs because there are none anywhere near me. My hope is the bur brings in deer that might not normally come around. Once they are in my area, they like the hinge cutting and...

    Trimming young trees

All of my trees are young. 1-3 years old. I had planned on trimming them in February. They are all tubed. Do you cut off those small limbs that are growing inside the tube? Sent from my iPhone using Deer Hunter Forum

    question about moisture mizer

I just planted some trees recently and wasn't able to apply the moisture mizer. My question is, can I just sprinkle it on the ground at the base of my tree and cover with landscape fabric? Or does it need to be actually in the ground closer to the roots?

    Unappreciative deer-GRRRR

It doesn't matter the tree, mine all get tubed and t-posted. Once they grow out of the top of tube then I put a cage around them. I feel your pain, I put a ton of work into my trees and if I saw any deer messing with them, it would be a quick dirt nap. Deer just need to be patient and they eat...
